I got mine from the second boss. I've got the sword now as well
I've neglected my health so I could get my Strength up to 19 to use it. Definitely need to focus on Vit next
I think the combat in this is more like Bloodborne than DS, with the dash/dodge and sort of rally mechanic from blocking. I'm finding parrying to be the most effective strategy so far

The swamp area was so confusing and those poison throwing bellends can fuck ooooff. Think I'm through it now though, just got horsey man to beat

Aunt Alison Did you experience any slowdowns over the swamp area? It was a framerate nightmare when I first visited it...

Aunt Alison Did you experience any slowdowns over the swamp area? It was a framerate nightmare when I first visited it... No framerate issues that I've noticed (on Series X), there was a bit of stuttering in one of the earlier areas and the perfomance took a dive at one point, so I just closed and reloaded the game, which fixed it. I just quit the game whenever I've finished playing now and haven't had any more problems

JonFE Do you know what level you were for The Hushed Saint? I haven't been shy about leveling but I'm still in OHK territory

Aunt Alison Don't have the slightest clue, sorry. I do remember it took me some tries (apart from Pieta, the most tries I had to take on a LotF boss) and it was partly because I insisted on getting Kukajin as a summon and she failed to help. I, then, started mixing things with Wayfarer, hoping he could be more helpful, but the winning try was with Kukajin. There are lots of parasites splattered across the battlefield, that may help you stop his horse on its tracks as it charges at you, but cannot say they actually helped me...

I done it now. The horse was the easiest part - it was his annoying powered up roots attacks that were getting me. It went down to he wire but he got staggered right at the end so I could just finish him off
Looking at my equipment, the armour I'm wearing is not providing much protection, so that is a factor. But it looks good and you can't put a price on style. I've just got over (under?) the carry weight threshold to be able to wield two of those Crimson swords. Big damage increase and the moveset is great

And what about those mimics eh They do have a (very minor) tell, as usual for Soulslike mimics Carefully check the little light wisp of the item ball. If the light trail keeps swishing back and forth, it's a mimic and you should soulflay that shit. If it's barely moving, it's legit.

It's a nice looking armour, with pretty decent stats that I got quite early in the mines and haven't looked back.

I had a look online for some recommended levels and from what little I could find, 40-50 was recommended for Pieta. I've just beaten the Infernal Enchantress at 30 No wonder I've been getting one shotted. Fucking hell
I also just spent 18000 vigor on a key for an area I'm nowhere near ready for

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how anyone can be level 40-50 for what is effectively the fist boss of the game, these guides must be mistaken...
Also, that key, you would have gotten for free, if you advanced a bit further the guy holding it would piss off leaving it behind... and yes, it's a difficult area that.

I think the key to Pieta is to level up a bit, but like Jon said , nowhere near 40/50 and take in a summon. You should have met him if you’ve been talking to your NPC’s.
That 18k key is for a mid-late game area. You’re going to suffer, but we’re here for you.

I had another look and it was 40-50 for the area 'after Pieta' which is pretty vague. I still think I'm quite underleveled though, possibly because I started as prisoner. I started a new char (prisoner again) as I'm more familiar with the game now and have more of an idea of what I'm doing. I'm interested to see how quickly I can get back to where I was and I want to hold on to more of those seeds as, without them, some of the boss runs are insane
I also wanted to check if the prisoner just has poorer stats than the other classes, but it is as I thought and they start at level 1, whereas other classes get about 10 levels worth of points. I think it's like that in DS as well
Pieta wasn't that bad - mostly big slow telegraphed attacks. I beat her at level 7, which is probably around the same as before, but she took a lot longer the first time
One enemy I absolutely hate (read: I am rubbish at) are those archers that shoot fire bolts and grenades and get all stabby if you get up close. I just cannot deal with them. Always a pain

With regards to summons, I don't use them but I'm sure when I have done in the past for NPC quests in DS, fights turn into a mess. The enemy is off all over the place and can suddenly switch their attention to you when you're not expecting it. I much prefer the predictability and control of being the only target. Although most of my experience with NPC summons is trying to not let them die

I don't mind using summons as they take some of the heat and let me concentrate on learning the boss patterns and whatnot. As for those archers, they are indeed pita.

I never really thought about using them to learn the patterns. That's a much smarter way to do it than just dying about 50 times, but I'm numb to it now

I can't seem to bring myself to move on to New Game +1, so every few days I spend some time doing stuff. If anyone is minded to be a completionist some guy with too much time on his hands, nerd, legend, Redditor has created a spreadsheet checklist. It's impressive. And quite depressing. Even so, I'm currently chipping away at it, trying to get what I can on this playthrough.

FlexibleFeline Thanks for that! Will check it out upon our return home, even though I fear the weapons and armour achievements are elusive. Also, keep in mind, you may start the game anew at the same level (NG0) keeping your stats and equipment to complete missing quests and endings without having to deal with the extra difficulty of NG+.

That's a great point. I'm just trying to get the Scarlet Shadow (using the area near the Windmill where mobs don't spawn when he appears). Once I've done him - if I manage - I might go on to that and just blitz through one of the other endings, tidying up as much other stuff as I can.

Finally got him. Can't believe I made such a meal of it. One issue is the waiting time between fighting him, it kills all sense of flow. That plus you can't heal. And he drains your health when you are near him. And he can basically one-shot you.
On reflection, he may be the hardest boss in the game...

And he scales to your level…
I noped out of the Platinum & all collectibles. The weapons are bad enough but the armours are cruel. Used about 30 of the rabbit paw things on the fungal bowmen in the Depths. Got about 6 daggers and bows, 2 sets of pants but none of torso/helm etc Life’s too short but good luck to anyone trying it

Yeah, I'm really not sure I can be bothered grinding for weapons and armour. And yet here I am, ticking off eyeballs and spells. It's, at the moment at least, a nice excuse to noodle around in this world.

Decided to do the 3 new quests for the new armour sets. Done the Radiance one rather easy and got stuck to the Inferno one because the boss you've got to beat General Engstrom is a huge PITA. Ultra fast, long reach, big AOE spells, hits like a rock, burns like lava, the works. Wasted way too many tries on him the other day, either with a Radiance heavy build and an Umbral one (got to admit I wasn't in the best mindset at the time, but he was easily the most difficult boss I faced in the game), let it rest for a couple of days and beat him today on my first try with the Umbral build.
Now, I'll start the Umbral one. Got to admire the team's dedication to support the game though. Kudos for that.
Also, I found a new appreciation for the Battle sets that Wo Long introduced; it would be so much better for me if LotF supported something similar. Having to look for the correct armour/weapon/catalyst/spells just to switch back and forth is a pain.
EDIT: Wish there was an easier way to farm those elusive Umbral Scourings and purchase the Remembrance items...
EDIT2: Unfortunately, the 3rd quest for the Umbral armour set won't even start for me. I can only assume it's bugged - what a surprise there! Hopefully, they will fix it...

I didn't even realise there was new stuff going on and I spent most of the Xmas week immersed in Mournstead!
Despite my post above, I've now collected all pendants, rings, spells, ammunition, all weapons apart from one dropped by the final boss of the Umbral ending (doing it now, my third playthrough) and all armour apart from some remaining remembrance items from late bosses (I share you pain, JonFE, re: umbral scourings, especially when in the Umbral ending you have to spend 50 to buy the umbral clump to progress it). Also, all quests done bar The Iron Wayfarer (completed as part of the Umbral ending) and Paladin Isaac (as on my second playthrough I summoned Kukajin to help with the Lightreaper, having rolled into her petrified form in my first playthrough, killing her quest before it had even started!). About to complete his quest and take on the Lightreaper at Upper Calrath.
So I'm very close, though I fully expect to find the achievements won't pop and I'll have to scour the terribly organised inventory to see what I'm missing (even though I've been ticking things off on that spreadsheet - I think I know what I'm missing but can't quite believe it). Let me tell you, 0.25% drop rate chance of one of the armour items led to an afternoon of looping an area in some sort of zen / flow state, only stopping to reset and pop a charmed paw and a lucky paw.
And - sighs - I will need a fourth playthrough at some point as I now know there is an Umbral Stigma I missed that appears somewhere after one of the other endings; I mean, how the hell you are supposed to know these things....still, I'm enjoying scything my way through bosses. I think my record is about 4 or 5 seconds for one of them. Cast inferno three times, goodnight.
If I complete this, it will without doubt be one of the most pathetic things I've done in my life.

FlexibleFeline The lack of any kind of sorting your inventory, especially weapons and armour sets is doing my head in. Also, if you try to sell some doubles to the blacksmith, I felt they rearrange things/your cursor position. How difficult would be to keep duplicates all together? Or to have a journal of watched stigmas? Or have the storage box, sorry coffer, available when selling stuff? Or improve the drop rate? Or, or, or, the list goes on...

I agree with you 100%.
And yet my console tells me I've played it for nearly two weeks. Christ. It keeps bringing me back in despite its very apparent and very bloody fixable flaws (the inventory, stigma list and drop rate stuff in particular)
