Unless I'm mistaken, there's no dedicated thread for this, IMHO promising, Souls-like game.
In any case, I found this extended gameplay video rather interesting:
PS If there is an existing thread, kindly merge this to that...

A few previews doing the rounds saying it could do with a months delay to sort out some issues.
The PS5 version looks a bit rough from what I've seen also.

I actually really like what I've seen so far. Watched the Fextralife vid and a bit of Fighting Cowboy playing it. Looks a bit jank in places but nothing I can't deal with. I was under the impression I was burned out of Souls-likes but love the art direction in this so... I think I'm in. Unless it reviews as the worst game ever created I can see me grabbing it at launch.

If it reviews as the worst game ever, you'll definitely love it

I only watched a little bit of the video posted as these previews of Soulslike games are always so dry and boring (and boil down to 'it's like Dark Souls' anyway), but they did mention Dark Souls 2

It's definitely growing on me after watching those 2 streams you've mentioned. Looks stunning on high end PC's as well. It's sub 50 quid so can forgive a bit of jankiness.

Reviews are coming in. Sitting at 77% on Metacritic right now.
I was determined to finish Lies of P first but, given I'm off to the UK next week for three weeks (= no console) and that I have a rare free Saturday coming up, I think I'm about to pull the trigger.

Fighting Cowboy reckons it’s a 4 out of 5 and that’s good enough for me. Mine’s on its way so if the pens don’t get me I should be able to have a look at it tomorrow. Still think it looks great.

I totally misunderstood IGN's "More like Lords of the Risen, amirite?" strapline, and thought they were saying this game was like something Piranha Bytes would produce; turns out, they actually liked Lords of the Fallen quite a bit (and gave it 8/10).

I quite liked Risen...I think. Or was it Gothic, or Two Worlds, or some other somewhat scrappy-but-not-without-charm RPG?
I have higher hopes for Lords of the Fallen - even though there is some jank in there for sure. I certainly love the idea of the Soul Reaver-esque dual planes mechanic.

I'm okay with some jank. The visuals have truly won me over. Can't wait to get on this.
To be honest I don't go by reviews from a lot of the mainstream sites on the whole anyway. I know from many years of gaming that a lot of the games I've really enjoyed haven't even reviewed that well. As I say though, Cowboy likes it and also Fextralife love it. That's good enough for me. Got to trust the old guts. Back in the halcyon days I would just buy something going by what the screenshots showed on the back of the box (damn you "screenshots taken from Amiga version" when we've yet to upgrade from the C64).
I don't think I was ever expecting glowing reviews across the board.

Ouch, that's harsh... then, again, they gave Lies of P 3/5 (different reviewer though) anc I enjoyed that game A LOT...

Yeah, this seems overly critical. I haven't read the review so maybe they have good reason, but I've seen content from both Fighting Cowboy and Fextralife, both of which seem pretty on the ball when it comes to soulslikes, and both of them like it a lot more than that.

Heh, have not been back to EG since this forum came into existence.
I too would take more notice of what the Fextralife dude has to say.
I don't buy games day one these days unless they are exceptional (Hey there BG3) but will probably pick this up down the line

The review seems fair. You should definitely knock off points if bad performance causes stutters during a boss fight and causes your death, you should definitely knock off points if you're making bosses regular enemies after and you should definitely knock off points if your bonfire system is incredibly limited resulting in laborious stretches trying to get back to where you died, FromSoft moved on from that, they should be able to.

I think every review is fair. It’s the reviewers opinion of the game. It’s up to the consumer to then decide if the game warrants a purchase. Personally the negatives outlined in the EG review don’t put me off.
I do think, after reading it, that it's actually a well written and justified review from EG. But, as ever, horses for courses. I'll stick to my guts and the sources that I - for souls likes at least - am likely to have the same gaming experience as, as their tastes align more with my own.
Anyway. It actually arrived today. So I'm going to grab a quick look later on before beddybyes.

Probably worth pointing out that the author of EG's review is Ed "I bought runes in Elden Ring with real money" Nightingale so, you know, salt, grains etc.
That aside, the "early bosses made into regular enemies" (at best with a palette swap and maybe a new move) thing is something the vast majority of RPGs have been doing since the dawn of time and still do. Final Fantasy does it, Dragon Quest does it, heck, even Dark Souls itself did it. I as a reviewer would pretty much never dock points for that when it's essentially become a custom in the genre...
Similarly, the boss runs being long and tough is something that even FromSoft only recently patched up in Elden Ring, and even then, in most cases, with Stakes of Marika rather than actual bonfires. It can be frustrating, but it's debatable whether that's a point dock on its own IMO.
In general (and I fully recognize that may be a problem with EG's scoring system and philosophy more than anything), the review reads like a 3/5 at worst, maybe even towards a "3.5" (7/10). Why the 2/5 I don't know. It certainly doesn't seem to deserve to have only one star more than the freaking Gollum game of all things...

I haven't read the review but bosses-becoming-mobs is an odd one - Capra Demon, anyone? It's been there since the beginning as you say.
Mine is downloading now and at about 19 this evening I'll get to dip in. I can't wait to be honest. And I really disliked the first Lord of the Fallen (love The Surges, though). I'm a total sucker for Soulslikes and have bought pretty much every one, even though many end up unfinished, from janky ropey shite like Hellpoint, to intriguing but flawed ones like Thymesia (got stuck on a fast-moving boss, my usual kryptonite).

The Capra Demons show up later in the worst, most unfinished part of the game. So not the best example there

Whether or not that's the worst part of the game isn't relevant to the point I'm making.

So had a bit of a look this morning. First impressions are that I really like it. It definitely needs a bit of polish but overall very positive. The lamp and twin worlds mechanic works really well and combat is solid. My main gripe is performance, which I presume / hope can be optimised further. I love the world and the atmosphere is superbly grim. The first proper boss has kicked my arse about twenty times so far mind you. Ultimately I’m looking forward to going back on it later.

Nice. One has to assume there will be some patches to come, and really I should wait until then. But I can't. So I won't.

Performance isn't enough to put me off mind you. I recall the days of Blightown. Everything else is brilliant. The block / parry / wither mechanic actually works really well. I do wonder if this dex build with it's pokey spear was the best one to start with though. I'm not kidding what that boss is like. She's brutal. I'm going to be thinking about how to kick her head in all day whilst I'm at work now. The good thing is that it's a fair fight. it's just bloody hard, and she's got a ton of moves I need to learn.

It's definitely one for me this, but will probably pick it up closer to Xmas. Spidey 2 and Mario next week so this wouldn't get a look in for a while.

No way I'm playing this and Lies of P at the same time so I'll pass for now. Performance is something I'm just more wary of these days. I accepted Blightown because it was my first Souls game, you can excuse it for the novelty of it plus the game felt new. Now with more Souls clones, it's harder to excuse. Lies of P for example has been rock solid so far. No doubt they'll make it better in time, so will be a good time to jump in then.
