Why don't we just pool our money together and make a Fontgeek NFT, with all the beaucoup money we could buy EG back from Roger Reedpop and put the forum back in.

I think Reedpop is all in on NFTs the way they have been spamming the news feed with everything relating to them.

Would FontGeek NFTs be 10,000 variations of a shit covered chair with a substance covered joycon on it?

Yeah, you'd never get people whimsically talking about Die Hard around here. What next, an article about Jaws probably. Bloody Donlan So you'd consider paying for the kind of random shit you get on a forum and class it as quality content for a games website? I mean you do you. Even if the quality of journalism and writing there was top class, I think that most would still probably not pay for a subscription to it. Writing is hard. Even if you're good at it, it's rough making it into a profession, because people don't value it nearly as much as they used to (if they ever did) (just people in general, not specifically the people here)

Funnily enough I’m finding myself way more active on this forum than I was on the other place.

That was a bit weird wasn't it? They run another Paul story on EG, get criticised in the comments for it, so just close them and don't say why? Don't think they've done that before
Honestly one of these days I really need to commit to browsing elsewhere. Creature of habit though.

I believe this is the old 'hate click article', it's a thing I've seen commonly in trash sites like Kotaku that attract all sorts of negative comments but it's great for the SEO. Them closing the comments probably demonstrates that they're not fully comfortable with it as well as the reactions that come from it. I mean it's tangentially connected to gaming because Pokemon cards but I guess this is what your subscription gets you these days.

I like how it complains about it getting publicity in the article while ostensibly being something that gives it publicity.

APPROVES OF EG EDITORIAL POLICY

It doesn't seem to be the case that Eurogamer are responsible for exclusive news anymore. In that regard, the likes of Bloomberg and WSJ have them beat.
All Eurogamer does is regurgitate what they've read on other sites.
I honestly wonder what the "journalists" over at Eurogamer are paid for. Like, how big is their editorial team?
There's more than enough people to be putting out 3-5 original pieces (including interviews) every day. Not once every other day.
At least they still have Digital Foundry...

I assume EG are like a local paper in England now where it's essentially an advertising rag. Every article will in someway be paid for. I wouldn't be surprised if you could pay for good reviews by this stage.

Didn't they say they don't pull much numbers in for reviews which is why they cut back on them. It's much better to get them scouring Reddit instead for the time it takes to play a game.

I think its more cost/benefit. A comprehensive review takes fucking ages but rewriting a press release can be done on the toilet and probably does similar numbers.

On a sort of related note, I've started reading Edge again recently (I can get free online access via my local council library of all things).
Years of reddit/forum/twitter reading has made it impossible for me to read anything longer than a few words. I skim everything and jump to the end. Nobody's got time for that.

I've been doing the same (using Libby) and I think their style is still stuck in the mid noughties. There's too much white space on every page and it makes reading it very unappealing. IMO of course.

Well... the ex-Editor In Chief known as Oli Welsh has left for Polygon.
Is this a sign that Eurogamer is bleeding talent? Anyone know what went on behind the scenes to cause such a shift?
Anyone know how Rupert Loman feels about Eurogamer becoming a shadow of its former self?

Oh absolutely. I've not read it for years and it was a right old nostalgia trip. They still have some of the same columnists, with the same headshots, the same art style....
