I remember reading John Walker's reviews. I also remember a lot of people complaining about them!

But at the end of the day it got people talking but like Gremmi says I don't see any personality anymore The last person with a voice was Emma Kent and she left not long after joining. Their recent hire seems to be following the Kotaku line going by his recent output.

I heard in a last ditch attempt to salvage the organisation they were hiring some journalistic big gun called Dale something or other. Apparently he's going to shake things up.

I just see them making the best of whatever the situation they're in now. As far as I know, they're not really calling the shots anymore. It's their job
I think what people here tend to talk about as Eurogamer and what Eurogamer has been for a long time (since the take over) are different entities

It's a bit of a missed opportunity.
They had/have an active community. They have an established event and a recognised brand in the fricken billion pound + Gaming industry!
Rather than pumping out text reviews and "articles" they needed to move to sponsoring youtubers and streamers, engaging with Twitch and Smashcast.
Imagine having inhouse eurogamer.net competitions and online tournaments for the community to participate in. Put some crappy merch up as prizes. I'm old with old man reflexes but I'd love to have a go, Fortnite, Halo, CoD, Apex, Mario Kart, Rocket League, whatever.
Challenge other sites, Hell maybe even create a Eurogamer E-Sports Team.
The Expo needs a massive refresh as well. Why pay and line up for hours to play demos you have at home? Developers need to be encouraged to be more generous with merch and goodie bags. If you can't have exclusives on releases and big titles Make it more interactive and worthwhile to attend. Better food, better facilities and encourage and reward the cosplay/comicon vibe.

"I just shat myself" and "At what point are you an alcoholic?" - the Eurogamer forum (and Font Geek, I guess) in a nutshell.
Don't ever change, you beautiful, mad bastards.

I stayed away at the end.
Missed the sock amnesty thread. Which reminds me
1/ I need to register a name
2/ did Sonic the Wankhog reveal themselves?

Always just seemed like they couldn't be arsed with any of the hassle. Even stupid simple things like giving out beta keyyzzz drove absolutely tons of people to the site, but they just stopped doing things like that. Probably thought they were too arty farty, real old fashioned journos who wanted to cater to The Guardian readers. Didn't want to do too much which would mean they had to deal with a ton of the mad unwashed scumbags.

Hmm, I seem to recall that for the last few days or so the forum was beset with a waive of utterly shite and stupid threads.

So long as digital foundry outlast the shuttering of Eurogamer I don’t think it matters. I can get news on upcoming games anywhere, and their reviews sucked ever since they got rid of scores. I liked scores.

They never even had the bottle to get fully rid of scores. Another similar, navel-gazey, metric with all of the same pitfalls isn't letting the review itself do half as much talking as they think it is.
