Sunsetting the fontgeek forum

Incidentally here’s the steps to delete an account in case anyone else goes the “oh no I don’t know what happened, I must have misclicked” route again:

* Edit Profile
* Go to settings
* Click the big “delete account button”
* Type the word “delete” in the big warning pop up box

I deleted myself from Eurogamer yesterday. Took me quite a while to figure out where the option was.

Maybe, but he might have had a “War of the Roses” moment, where in the initial kerfuffle he imagined himself never being on a forum ever again, and a long dead part of his psyche cried out “please!” from a deep abyss.

Email verification doesn’t delete accounts, especially not that quickly, and we have the security logs that show what happened from what IP address.

But anyway, yeah, let’s move on.

Roguey sulked off because someone put a tag under his username.

I can’t do this as mine is a made up email address so I can’t confirm deletion. I’ll never ever post in the comments so the account is pointless now.

I'm pretty much over the EG forum closure now tbh; I actually prefer it here with the added functionality, and genuinely heartened by the sheer number of regulars (and folks from other gaming pastures) that transitioned over -- and that it wasn't a flash in the pan and appears to have some longevity. 2020 was a fucking horror year, and though I definitely count myself incredibly lucky in relation to what many others have had to endure throughout the pandemic, the EG forum was a much needed space to rant, despair, and laugh during that time, for me at least.

I am sad that a few forumites do not appear to have found their way here (or have left/or felt it wasn't for them), of course. I liked Roguey alot, for what it's worth. Are users Joelstinty and Challenge_hanukkah around?

Nah, i saw him the other day as user 'ook!', but the @was to joel, so a name change rather than a deletion.

Not sure if there is some newcomer thread but assumed this one functions a bit like one for old EG members. Bit late to this thread so will keep it short.

I had been active for 18 years on EG but mainly lurked and did not post regulary except when Bloodborne got released (Sid1567 helped me defeat DLC bosses in NG+). I also made a thread that raised some eyebrowns (Worst Eurogamer reviews) which I believe to still be Brink.

I was taken by surprise when the forum disappeared because I still reguraly lurked and read posts about newly released games and did not see the announcement. I think the sub model now makes no sense and dont see any chance of it succeeding without paywalling most content. I also dont get why websites dont allow for more content from regular viewers who want to write a feature it something or community reviews. Due to my few posts I dont think I ever got into a fight with anyone except TomFTW (relatively civil discussion about some gender issues but 5 years ago he was like a zealot and rather passive aggressive).

Have you not seen the letter from the editor? Seems woth the sub alone for how special it is.
