It's almost like Eurogamer was embarrassed by us (I can't imagine why). The forum was just gone without fanfare or any acknowledgement at all. I've met some of the team over the years, and there was open embarrassment and cringing for things like the boobies thread/group.
I mean, you would be embarrassed wouldn't you. They're showing colleagues in the industry their professional shit and there's Razz passing around mucky photos of internet bums.
That said the old guard were very supportive of the forum in general, at least in my experience.

There were Boobies and Bums groups. I think groups were a bad idea or rather they splintered off a lot of conversation from the main forum into little cliques but there again some of those conversations were probably better left outside public view.
Did they last long? After my break it seemed like most groups just went quiet and died out.

Actually maintaining groups broke a few years ago after they scrapped the Eurogamers social stuff but the groups themselves remained and a few were active.

Dads club was good. One of the few groups i was in and was still fairly active.
Up until new folk couldn't be added. That was after all the mod tools were removed i think. Nickthegun would know better, i think he was one of the gatekeepers for it.

Reading the comments on the Thor article it's surprising to me how the comments section and the forum were almost entirely separate things... like there were hardly any names that I recognised, and only a very small handful of people discussing the fact that the forum has gone. I always assumed it was the same people, which is ironic because clearly I never properly looked at the article comments before  |

Comments have their own clique but I find it all so horribly impersonal. Considering what EG is nowadays every comments thread is effectively “talk about this advert”, and the up/down votes have little purpose given how contextless they are.

Where do you lot go for your gaming info these days then? I'm a creature of habit so I still go on EG, but it might be time to look elsewhere

I mostly get game news from you comedians. I will look at video reviews for things the hive mind is hyping up to check it’s not talking out of its crease but I would never actually read a review these days.
Tangentially, I would imagine it’s why EG takes a more esoteric view to reviewing because the ‘Graphics: 5, Sound: 5, Controls: Kempston’ robots are very well catered for.
