InfiniteDan's post sort of sums up how I felt about the forum for a long time. But saying that it's also been a crutch during hard times, and a place to take my bottomless pit of ire out on. I think I've come a ways since then, these last years I've found some stability and I think I'm better for it. Ecosse though. That tragic maggot still makes me itch with disgust.

You have definitely mellowed over time DB, you used to be like a bomb waiting to go off at all points.

That post by infinite Dan on EG was something else. So much energy. Wasted. It was like a toddlers tantrum. I hate you, you're the worst parents ever! I wish you were dead! Clearly holding onto some unhealthy resentment for being made to look a fool in a thread at some (or multiple) points.

He was right (well, not entirely wrong) about some things. But yeah, if you've got that much bile held up inside you, it's probably more useful to just go outside for a walk or something. For perspective.

Yeah, I just read that. What a strange chap.
I will miss Big Dave's occasional drop-ins to remind us that we're all nauseating, self-satisfied, left-leaning cunts.

Had to go and find it.
Blimey. I wonder if he feels better for letting that out.

Bah. Its all quite depressing, nostalgia overload.
There's definitely something sad about the best part of 20 years of shared experience going up in smoke.
I'd mostly moved on, but still checked in regularly. I was 18 at the start, and was weaning myself off of an addictive relationship with mIRC. Uni, marriage, our first kid due in February.
Its been a while.

Its been a while. Agreed the EG forum is inextricably tied to all the events in my life the last 18 years good and bad, always the place I sort solace with like minded people through breakups, depression and craving for new media. I never get why people feel the need to get abusive, but it takes all sorts to make a world, a loss of perspective and keyboard warrior mindset would be as good an explanation as any. Seems a bit crass to dispose of it, but the bottom line is so often the driving force these days. The EG bookmark is gone for me, but essentially EG lost its soul a long time ago anyway, it's just the Biz choom (playing too much Cyberpunk).

The "hazing of newcommers" wasn't really a thing. It was taking the piss out of people who felt the need to create a "hello! Look at me!" thread when they joined. And I am well onboard with calling out that nonsense. Don't some places put an absolute ban on newcomers starting a new thread until they've contributed something.
We're prone to navel gazing as a group, but I think the "local pub" analogy works well. Except now we're a pub full of largely old men staring in at their pints rather than the sexy young men about town shouting at each other and laughing at nob gags.

Crashed again. To hell with it. Mostly very dull anyway. Although it has saved for posterity the time I listened to every song on my iPod in alphabetical order. Which despite it taking up 15 months of my life I'd forgotten about. Zurich is Stained by Pavement? One of my favourite bands when I was an impressionable teenager right into my 20s, still listen to them occasionally now

Jesus Christ, what's wrong with me. Between the impending "sunsetting" (urgh) of the EG forum and Shaun Keaveny's last show on Radio 6, today is making me sad enough to break my 18 year lurking streak. Fuck sake.

Sean Locke did a bit on Graham Norton which popped up recently (like a lot of Sean Locke bits have *sniff*) about how Points of View is the most pointless TV show because you have a remote and hundreds of other channels to watch. If youre offended, its because you want to be because your other options are almost limitless.
Feels like that with the infinitedan and frod posts in the sunset thread. 'Good riddance, you were twats'. Seems like the biggest twats are the ones who stick around a tiny forum filled with people they hate when there is a whole other internet to look at.

Can I just say that whoever made the browser tab icon here so closely replicate the EG one is a fucking hero.

What exactly is the end game here? Get people to like you by attrition?
A forum does not owe you anything. It's just a bunch of people who are chatting and hanging around each other by choice. It certainly doesn't owe anybody validation. What the fuck?

Just deleted my EG profile after making a profound final post. It would be good to see a load of deleted users filling the place up at switch off. Kind of like the fall of Berlin.
