Dear Mr Ape, Look on the bright side, at least I'm not your doctor. Although I could be if you were up for it* *Wouldn't recommend it. I have no money at the moment, so could I pay you in cheeky winks?

Supposedly technical issues holding it up, but someone upthead had it running on a 2070 and starchild apparently has it running it running on a potato, so god knows what's going on there. Yup. I’ve got it running at 1080p on Medium on a laptop that must be about 10 years old with a GTX 1050, and not even the Ti variety. It ain’t perfect and certainly isn’t consistent but is more than playable and runs surprisingly well. So if they can’t get this shit running on a Series S, hire me and let me piss about with the settings for a bit. How well does split screen co-op work on your PC? That's what's causing issues on the S not it working at all.

They're having issues getting the Series S version running well I believe. Just the split-screen mode allegedly, no mention of the game running shite otherwise. Has to have feature parity with the X so they won't/can't drop the mode from the S version. Personally, I'd just drop split-screen from the Xbox versions altogether and patch it in at a later date if needs be.

paulyboy81 I think it's one of these times where feature parity comes to bite MS up the arse. They can't drop split-screen altogether, since it's included in the PS5 version and will make the Xbox Series X feel weak, and they can't drop it from the Series S, 'cause it will hurt MS message about the Series S being as capable as the Series X...

Word is that split screen runs at 25-30fps on the Steam Deck (unofficially, since Larian actually disabled split screen support on the Deck). And power wise, the Series S is still miles above the Deck, so you'd think they should easily get to a stable 30fps somehow. However, it might be memory constraints rather than a GPU power issue.

Aye, it doesn't appear to be just a rendering bottleneck. I imagine it runs fine for the most part in Series S then in certain scenarios it chugs and stalls as the ram gets over-filled.

Yeah was look at a comparison of the specs among the two, and suspected it might be a ram issue. 10GB is increasingly becoming not very much ram in this day and age.
Wonder if the need to maintain releases across both consoles will get increasingly harder for MS.

I haven't got very far because I keep restarting, but meeting Gale when playing as 'The Dark Urge' did not go well. At all.

Can you create and save multiple characters (at least in terms of appearance) without actually starting a new game with that character? Everything I could find says no, which is a bit of a boo. I wanted to mess around a bit and make a couple characters a la Nioh before choosing who to actually play with...

I think no, as it puts you into the character creator after starting a game and viewing part of the first cutscene, so it's kind of done as part of the start of the game. I don't think there was a separate way to just set a character up before that.

Does anyone know if it's possible to play co-op one player on PC and the other on the Steam Deck on the same Steam account? That would help me and JuniorFE enormously! Not sure on this. A quick glance says that if one person is in offline mode than you can both be playing the same game on the same account. That would cut you off from online features, but if BG3 doesn't use Steam for its online functionality than I guess that wouldn't be an issue. If it has LAN multiplayer that could also be an option.

So two things I'd like. An actual pause button, I don't think it particularly matters but if I pause it to eat dinner it shouldn't still be simulating stuff and using up CPU power. Then I also want the option that if they successfully pass a test to spot a trap, STOP FUCKING MOVING.
This was a problem in BG1 and I'm shocked nobody has ever thought of it.

Yes to the above.
I also wish it would let you use companions skills during conversations. It just renders most of their skills annoying useless a lot of the time.

I've never liked the way Larian games handled the companions when it comes to conversations. I assume they've designed it with the co-op in mind, where companions are treated as outside of conversations, unless you start the conversation with them. Although I appreciate for co-op play you may want to be able to do other things while one person is in a conversation, I would much prefer for single player it assumed the whole group were part of the conversation (unless your party was split - although I assume I'm not unusual in never purposefully doing that).
That way you would be able to naturally let companions use skills during the conversations. Perhaps they could use some extra skill check for a companion to be able to interrupt or something, to avoid diluting your own choice of class/race/etc.

They kinda do as you get those moments where they go "let X speak" for specific narrative points, but yeah. Though hence playing as a Bard, my PC has all the skillz.
Though why you would design anything that simple with co-op in mind for a game like this... seems utterly mad considering how long it is.

Intrigued by BG3 but reticent having not played the previous titles and never having clicked with D&D systems. A few questions for the good people of the panel:
1) is prior knowledge of the series important and is there a 'story so far' explainer?
2) is Larian's plot/writing better than D:OS2? I played about 30hrs of that but the story and characters never really grabbed me and was the main reason I just dropped it when I hit a big difficulty spike.
3) how good is the onboarding for people that don't know D&D? I have played D&D based games, D:OS2, Planescape, Pillars and have never felt anything other than avrious degrees of confused and overwhelmed.
4) any similarities with Dragon Age Origins? Absolutely loved that game for the writing, the plot (even if unoriginal) and the characters. Plus the combat made intuitive sense to me. I actually quite like Bioware's take on turn-based. KOTOR was good in that regard too. Nothing since has scratched the same itch.
5) anyone tried using a controller over Sunshine/Moonlight or Steamlink? I'd ideally be alternating between the desk and the couch for a long game like this. Seems like added latency wouldn't be an issue if the controls are good enough and the UI readable for distance. Is the PC with controller = PS5 or too early to say?
