Yes it definitely needs more development time. It's just a bit unstable, stuttery, and rough around the edges, particularly in the menus. My game's crashed a couple of times when trying to quick resume to the pre-race screen, but also whilst simply in the menus buying a car.
Even when quick resume does work, the best case scenario is the main menu is displayed, so you may as well just boot the game from scratch.
It seems needless to have rushed the game out so close to Starfield's launch. Any time before Xmas would have been fine.

Also had the temperamental quick resume. Sometimes it’ll hang for a few seconds, other times it’ll crash and dump me back to the dash.
Maybe rethink supporting two tiers of console.

The difference in target practice lap times between drivatar levels 5 and 6 is rather large.

Quick resume - a pleasant surprise when it works, never to be relied upon

Why the fuck isn't this working on Quick Resume? (Or saving after I've done practice.) Great feature that works for about 50% of games ime. You'd think it would work on a first party flagship game! could be that its always online game?

I made my peace some time ago that any game with even just a hint of online integration is liable to be flaky as fuck with quick resume.

I sort of have as well (Diablo IV at least handles it gracefully though) but for a FIRST PARTY TITLE TO CRASH IF YOU QUICK RESUME... It's like someone at MS decided Sony wasn't far enough ahead this gen.

I've found quick resume to be extremely reliable with most games now. Even Starfield works 90% of the time.
Not really good enough for a first party developer not to support it, especially when issues with 'always online' games have been solved by other devs.

There is, even now, something magical about quick resume - when it works. I’m guessing it’s not that easy to implement, loads of games screw it up at first, then get better. I’d imagine Sony would love to have a version of it, it’s one of the few things Xbox has over PS5 this gen, but yet here we are 3 yrs in and no sign of it over there - maybe another sign it’s not straight forward.

Yeah, Microsoft put their expertise in software and virtual machines to good use to achieve quick resume.

As a layman, it seems as though the API is robust, but some devs handle the edges better. For instance, Fall Guys will resume, but will recognise it needs to reconnect and do so. Redfall did the same. I don’t think it’s particularly good that FM will just crash and dump you back to the dashboard when it can’t reconnect to the game server. Even restarting the session but keeping me inside the game would be preferable.

Started with a Quick Resume crash just now and now my 5.1 sound is completely fucked, brilliant \o/ Sounds like I’m driving with audio on the other end of a telephone line.

And yet just threw a MK1 MX5 around Lime Rock and it was more fun in those 6 laps than GT7 ever gave me. So pleasing feeling the thing sliding around.

Count yourself lucky you don't have to wait 20 mins for the shaders to cache every time you launch the game only for it to crash at random.

I looked at those known issues on the link a page back and thought it was a joke. AAA game development really is a joke at this point.

It’s mad that a Bethesda game seems to be the most technically proficient game that’s come out of Microsoft first party for some time.

I got a lot out of GT7, so this isn’t mad good and disappearing into the distance by comparison in my eyes. But… doing a series with a fresh car, starting our stock, levelling it and tuning the performance and load out between events, and feeling it grow and feeling myself get better at driving it is a really satisfying loop. And can I just say again that the in race weather transitions are fucking amazing. Had a race in Barcelona that went from drizzle to rain so heavy it was basically night time and then the sun broke through. So so good. Just a shame they haven’t finished making it.

Amazing that this and Halo Infinite should have been the big first party powerhouses to show what the Series X is capable of and yet both look pretty last gen for the most part and both launched in a buggy state.
I'm pretty gobsmacked how rough around the edges Forza is. Not particularly fast loading either.

Hard disagree. On the loading especially. Five or six seconds into each race? Very much in line with expectations. Visuals feel a step on for me too. The trees. The trackside detail. The weather. The dynamic time of day. All really good.
They’ve fucked up the launch, and there are inexcusable bugs in there, but let’s not exaggerate.

The trackside stuff is weirdly impressive. Those comparison shots with GT7 really make that game look static in comparison. The rain effects look way better too.
Not played either though. Just purely nerding out to comparison videos.
Edit - Static isn’t the word I mean. It looks less real. Like all the trees are exact duplicates or something. I wouldn’t notice or care normally, but it suddenly looks very jarring next to Forza.

Yeah. Oddly it’s the crowd density sometimes that really makes the difference. An event at Laguna Seca was packed out and for some reason it made it feel a lot more epic.
I guess the same was true when they put “proper” crowds in FIFA for the first time too.

It's nice but yeah Forza looks great I really don't get the earlier comment about it looking last gen, Series S is a poor show I think but Series X looks great.

Track racing games always look a bit sterile, just like real racing does. I think it's hard to make them exciting looking due to the subject matter.

I'm quite enjoying the game, the racing is much more fun than GT7 and everything feels more alive (I always feel GT games are a drier experience with less excitement - it feels like most of the effort in those games is an obsessive level of detail in the cars). I have had a few bugs on Series X, hard crashes, freezing and the obvious failure of Quick Resume, having to redo a race earlier today in career mode was a bit of a drag though.
The thing I am noticing and missing is the amount of Forza Motorsport 'traditional' tracks like Sebring and Road America. The choice of tracks feels really limited in comparison. It does feel like a rushed job which is odd for a game which has been delayed I believe a few times.

I'm still having my DLSS cut out randomly, although it seems less frequent recently. Enjoying the handling, just need to put some time in and get some cooler cars.
