Looking forward to a return to the 'main' Forza series after such a long gap.

I came very late to the last one, buying the ultimate edition or whatever for under a tenner… and there was just a bunch of flags that led to a bunch of events and it all felt so cold and procedural. Granted GT7 doesn’t boil down to much more than that but it sure felt more engaging.
So yeah. Fingers crossed it’s not a spreadsheet with GIFs again.

The UI of 7 was an abysmal mess. Kept me from loading it up, despite enjoying previous entries. I don’t mind the “here’s a themed series of events” set ups, it’s actually what ultimately made GT Sport my favorite entry in that series. I like pick up and playability. But having to click through a billion menus in FM7 just to get a race going killed my excitement for it, regardless of how good those races actually felt.

May have just been my experience/lack of ability, but with 7 the handicap playing on a pad vs those with a wheel felt enormous

I found a lot of that very underwhelming. Hopefully it plays well but to me all this 'you don't buy the car, you build it' doesn't do anything for me.
Being online to save... why oh why are we going down this route.

Underwhelming is an understatement. From both videos I've seen it looks like their ultimate goal is to have the viewer fall asleep.
It's Forza so I'm going to play it but I'm far from excited.

The new career mode looks good. It seems like it facilitates a more 'rags to riches' progression, which is what I want, although I'm still not 100% sure if the game will be able to resist throwing a Lamborghinis at you within the first 2 hours.
The Forza mantra seems to be "Here's a load of cars... Go and have fun" but for me, the fun is the novelty of taking a shit car, giving it ridiculous upgrades and aesthetics, dominating the competition, which in turn earns the right to drive "proper" racing cars.

I'm not expecting the re-invention of the wheel career-wise. It's going to be "here's a series, drive all races". There's not a lot of space for variations. That's ok.
Bur it all looks and feels so incredibly bland. I'm quite shocked to be honest. This is a big name first party game after all.
I'd also really like to hear something about the tracks. I couldn't care less for the cover cars but what about new tracks?

Yeah, tracks and AI is what makes or breaks these games for me.
GT7 had the tracks, but the way every race panned out exactly the same way is why I’ve just drifted away from that.
Forza 7 was disappointing on both fronts, so I’m hoping for a decent upgrade here.

Is there a list yet? I agree, if this is the “serious” Forza then it needs all the world tracks.
I’ll take a bit bland if the driving model feels good and the AI isn’t a horror show. And the novelty of not having the farcical GT7 starts would be nice, wouldn’t it?
It’s hardly making me, er, *redline* though…

It was nice to see - in what little footage I've skimmed through - the player not just whooshing through the back markers into the first corner. Looks like you actually have to, you know... race! Not sure bland is the word I'd use, but it's certainly not yet got my motor running in the same way as some of the GT7 footage did. Couldn't put my finger on why. It's "free" on GamePass anyway so all that'll happen is minor disappointment rather than that plus being £70 down.  |

Yeah definitely, especially when it’s bright sunshine. Rain and/or night always looks better. Seems to me like they get so caught up in resolution and frame rate chasing that something like an art director is needed to reign them in a little |

Maybe AI just means drivatars, and their cars crash into walls like usual in Forza game.
