Watched the highlights now. Geez, they had more shots on goal in that match than all the others combined. Foden actually seemed like he could play, etc... Stupid penalty decision though. LOL how all the commentators were 100% sure it wasn't a penalty  I hope you all appreciate me missing the match so they'd play well. I'll probably stay up for the final now, so that's guaranteed to suck. Huge difference from our usual style of scoring early and losing the lead and momentum in the second half. Told you! My strategy before the game was to concede a goal ASAP so they'd actually start playing! Of course, the rest of my strategy was to play 11 Sakas, so I might not have been 100% right. TBF though, I wasn't expecting the other players to actually turn up for once. |

Wish these new contract rumours would sod off. Can we not just enjoy the game on Sunday?
It's possible to simultaneously hold the opinions that Southgate has been great for England and deserves a trophy and that Southgate has gone on too long and that it's time for a fresh approach.
Hope the rumours haven't come from the FA.

You would hope they would look at a bicycle kick that could easily have not gone in, a shootout that could easily have gone the other way and a penalty that could easily have not been given before rushing to set out the next tournament cycle. Not to mention the draws which couldn't have been hand picked any nicer. It's great while it lasts and all but eventually this luck will run out.
It's easy to forget amongst the hysteria of reaching another tournament final that we could have done this without needing a horseshoe permanently lodged up our anal canal given the players we have.

While the above is true, I think you will generally find any major tournament winner has squeaked through games / had some luck / won a shootout / shit just went there way on the route to the final.
Southgate has always done the same - had the players hold back and just don’t lose the game while conserve energy during the tournament mentality and that isn’t ever going to change. I think generally it has gone to script in every tournament- but clearly the Bellingham get out of jail goal was where that method almost came unstuck.

Yeaaaaa. It's dawned on me it's on in an hour :x Honestly, this is the first tournament I've not been nervous watching the games mainly because of deep ambivalence towards how England had been performing in those opening game. I'd reached a weird state of zen where I was OK with them losing against Switzerland or Netherlands because just looked off the pace. Time for Gareth to hand over the reins. And now... it's a final. A FINAL arghhhhh. The repressed emotions of supporting England bubbling up, all over again. |
