Demo from Steam seems to run ok on my laptop, whose graphics card is below minimum spec.
Looks lovely, and very nice vibe. I love what they've done with the graphics. They manage to seem detailed and modern, while also pixelated and old-style.
I played the old demo and wasn't very impressed, even though it was basically the same thing. So they've obviously made a lot of improvements.
I only got up to the Medical Bay exit before I had to stop though, so I'm not very far in at all.

Yup, I'd agree with that review. I was playing last night and I had to stop and just look around where I was, it was that cool.
And I'm still in medical! It's so nice to play - I just don't want to rush any of it.

Stoically trying not to end up buying Diablo, SF6, and this over the weekend. Downloaded the newer (beta?) demo instead ... Yeah this feels absolutely fantastic. Gah, my wallet.

It's still superb. I have just fully rinsed medical last night. Pretty sure I've 100% it now. That locked armory door was definitely worth it, as was the secret panel door - that's still there from the original too.
Onto to the research level now. Remember this being a step up in the original.

It's a bit spooky, especially the audio.

Been playing the demo, yep it’s awesome. Will be picking this up after Zelda.
The new artstyle is so cool, fits absolutely perfectly.
Anyone know how long the demo is?

I ran through the demo on Saturday. Ends when you move to the lift on the medical level. Thought I'd done all but seem to have security down to 8% iirc so must have missed something.
Certainly a decent slice and made my mind up to buy it and run through it again after more years than I care to remember.

I wish there was an option to move the descriptive text to just over the 'crosshairs' The demo is amazing so far, but I'm finding myself spending 90% of the time looking at the text at the top of the screen, which takes my eyes away from what I'm actually looking at. I know it was like that in the original, but.. Other than that, no complaints so far. Other than blowing myself up with a grenade

I'm stuck! I've done as much as level 2 (research) that I can. But where the bloody hell is the science key?

Is this the kind of game you can get stuck in? Very retro.

I’ve spent two hours on the medical demo and still not done. Brilliant stuff.

And it was something I'd missed, as usual.
Have done medical, done research, most of reactor and now in maintenance. There's a well nifty laser rapier up for grabs here too.
Fucked if I can do the reactor level cyberspace section though, it's bloody nails!
Anyone else playing this at the moment? I'm having a complete blast with it.

I suspect I’ll be buying it pretty soon after I 100% the demo. It’s brilliant.

Was pretty let down it’s not also out on console. I replayed System Shock a dozen times I’m sure, so glad this is doing well.

Yeah, I’d have checked it out on PS5. The reviews mentioning the complicated control scheme are enough to turn me away from it. I can’t play Deus Ex 1 because it’s controls are so awkward and convoluted.

I'll plug a controller in my pc and see how it plays. Guy reviewing it on pc did the same and said it was OK. Not amazing, but ok enough

The original game was complicated, but it was groundbreaking (and, in other ways, a refinement of Ultima Underworld) but I expect the new game has many “modern” quality of life improvements.

I dunno. It's extremely faithful to the original. You do have some qol stuff like a recycler to turn junk into credits but that just helps buying odd bits and bobs, nothing groundbreaking but useful.
The puzzles are similar but a step up in difference and difficulty (or I'm just not very lateral thinking)
It's control system now is more like system shock 2, so full mouselook and tab to bring up an on screen inventory/map etc and then you use the mouse for that and then when you're done, you tab out of it.
I'd say the only thing I'm missing is some of the levels soundtracks. They've changed that so it's ambient until things kick off and then it ramps it up a bit till the event is over.

Yeah definitely. I keep harping on about it as its one that can easily be missed due to its not huge popularity

It's still on my list to play, but between Zelda and Diablo it might take me a while to get around to it!
I'm enjoying reading the updates in this thread in the meantime though.

I'm up against security level 2 robots now, they pack a bloody punch. You can't wail through it like the original. You've got to have the upper hand most of the time with the harder enemies. Gives it even more tenseness when wandering around.
Actually having to strategically places mines and such like to ambush enemies etc.
It's even made me pause zelda while I play this!
