That's good progress though. Out in 21 days then on pc.
I'm going to have to double dip if the console release is more than 15 minutes later.

I suppose that's better than, "Yeah, we're going to start on the console version soon" I guess.

That depends on what you think it means.

But if they manage to figure out a way for it to work on consoles and I get a PS5 release that I can play on my big telly then that will be just super.

SS2 Enhanced or SS Remake? Or both?
I'm currently playing Jedi Knight and Tron 2.0, both with mods that update the graphics. Neither get them up to what a new release would look like these days, but they both do just enough to make them look like you remember them looking. SS2 Enhanced looks like it's doing the same thing.

I know SS Remake is coming at some time but I didn't know that the enhanced version of SS2 was mooted. Not sure how much stock to take in that but I would love it.

Yeah I have played SS2 with the rebirth mods and this looks similar. I don't think I'd want it looking drastically different. Just a bit crisper and cleaner and that would be amazing. Dark Engine games looked like shit anyway, but it was never about the graphics.

Hm, it would be good on the big telly wouldn't it. And I'm sure the control method won't be from 1984 and I should be ok with a controller

Remake reviews are currently dropping. Looking good. Bestest Best on RPS.
Having not played the original, I'm excited for this now. Didn't think they'd do it tbh.

Though I don't know any of the reviewers now, so I'm not sure of their tastes.

It's looking fairly mixed rather than all glowingly positive. Chuffed that it's finally happening mind you and looking forward to getting stuck in and seeing for myself. Hopefully it works well on the steam deck.

Good start to just get it done tbh.
Ah, good shout, I could cast it via my steam thingy too

Holy shit RPS put a Bestest Best on something I'm actually interested in. I don't think that's happened in years. Even as a refugee from RPS.

I'm excited for this - never played a System Shock game before, being a total n00b and all, but I did play the BioShock series earlier this year (and absolutely loved it).
PS5 retail release date, please!

I'm excited now the reviews are good. System Shock 2 is the only one I played but it's part of that seminal period when I was 14-18 when games just shot off into the stratosphere for me. 1998-2000 ish. You've got Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Thief 1+2, Baldur's Gate 1/2/ToB, PlaneScape Torment, Half Life, Freespace 2, Grim Fandango, Fallout 2, Alpha Centauri, No One Lives Forever, Shogun Total War. It was a fucking golden age to own a PC.
Never went back to System Shock itself though as I always heard the controls were a horror show.
At a push I'd move it forward to 2001 just to slyly slip Max Payne in there.

It looks absolutely fucking brilliant, tbh. Wasn't expecting that. Love what they've done with the art style.

Will get this. Played the original - is that the original box I have there on my shelf? Art style was weird - the initial section with the sloping walls were just odd.

I remember this punishing my 486 PC, so I’ve played it but probably not enjoyed it thanks to slideshow vision. The second is in my personal top five of all time. Very excited for this. I seem to remember that MetalDog back at Ye Olde Plaice was nuts for the original too.

I'm really hoping my laptop can run this. Looks lovely, but hopefully it's not too demanding specs-wise.
If not I'll have to wait for a switch port. Sigh.

Unreal. (4 I guess?) It runs just fine for me and looks great, with none of the usual Unreal fuckery. There's a free demo available on GOG but the impression I get from other users is that it doesn't seem to be hugely demanding.

Is that the old demo, or is it updated to the newer version? The demo from a few years back looked significantly different iirc. Unreal Engine is good as it tends to run better on lower spec hardware than most other engines. Mostly. PS/ Gog is giving away one of their Goodie Packs for System Shock. Doesn't look super exciting to me, but if you're into that kind of thing: www.gog.com/en/game/system_shock_goodie_packPPS/ Steam also has a demo, but neither store seems to give any way to find out when the demo was last updated. It's not the super old Unity engine version, but I dunno if it's Alpha, Beta or Release.

Think the GOG demo came out around February this year, it looked very similar to the full release. It should give you a perfectly good idea of how the full game will run on your system. I'd assume the Steam version is the same.
