wunty I finally figured out what I'd missed: the skull-shaped slot in the computer room, into which the chip could be inserted. One nightmarish room full of elite enemies later, I'm now standing next to a teleporter that (I assume) will take me to SHODAN.

I'm hot, sweaty, tired, and basically Mr. Cranky-Pants this evening, so please take the forthcoming rant with an appropriate amount of sodium chloride, but... what the fuck is this shit?!So the last boss fight takes place in Cyberspace, like the bullet-hell shooter sections you'll have encountered at least half a dozen times by this point, but it doesn't play the same way - instead of having the same (high) speed and (total) freedom of movement you usually have in Cyberspace, you have the (lower) speed and (lesser) freedom of movement that you have in Realspace.
In short, they've crudely smushed together the two main components of the game, and arrived at something that isn't anywhere near as good as either. In fact, it just plain sucks:
- You have no health bar, so you can't tell how close you are to dying. - There are no health pickups - you get three 'lives' and that's it. - The usual aiming reticle has been replaced with a single dot that's just about impossible to see. - I never used an assault rifle or grenade launcher in the game, and if they handle like these ones do, that's just as well.
I must've tried six or seven times and ended up quitting in a fit of pique. (I know - I'm hiding it well.)

All the guides I've found online explain how to beat a completely different boss to the one I've just encountered - I'm guessing this is what Malek meant when he said it had been totally reworked since the PC version launched last year.
Gah! Time for bed, I think.
Perhaps I'll be less of a salty douchebag in the morning. (Sorry 'bout that.)

Well, I didn't think it was *that* hard.
I did have a couple close calls, but in the end, I still made it without losing a life. It helps to play conservatively. There's no time limit, so don't rush. The puzzles are all fairly easy.
That said, I'm pretty sure I did have a health bar. And maybe even health pickups. But I'm reading about people complaining about the same problem as you. I wonder if they hotfixed the Steam version but not the console version.

I’m with Uly. Four tries and then I sacked it off. Absolutely horrendous. Very disappointing.

Not that I can remember the original ending anyway haha

Nice one, wunty! Any tips? I'm planning to have another go tonight. I only managed to get as far as the third island - the massive one with all the gravity lifts - so maybe it gets even worse thereafter, but I just kept dying over and over on that part. So many enemies, and I couldn't hit a barn door from five paces with any of the weapons to which I've had access so far; I'm playing on a TV with a screen that's smaller than my PS5, and the reticle is almost invisible, which isn't helping. Cheers!

Hmm. Possibly - I'll have to do a bit of Googling and see what I can find.
I do know that there has been no patch for the PS5 version since it launched in May.

Cheers! Shotgun. Keep moving, get them clustered together. It shoots surprisingly quickly so just keep hammering them. Third island is the last one with enemies. Easy after that. Try not to die before you get there and give yourself some lives. There’s a lot of enemies there. Good luck.

What's up with the ending then? Have they fucked it up? Not that I can remember the original ending anyway haha I can't recall the original much either tbh. Will need a YT refresher. But it definitely wasn't like this. You're in Cyberspace, but it acts as the real world, so you don't float and there are virtual versions of three weapons (an AR type gun, a shotgun type thing, and a charging slow firing thing which is rubbish). The main issues are: 1) You have NO HUD. You can't see how much health you have, so you've got to just hope that each hit won't be your last. 2) You do get a couple fo respawns, but if you die after that you're game over. So you reload your save and have to jack in again, going through the slow intro part with the dialogue, each time. 3) There are three islands (a fourth one after tht is merely a formality) and they get progressively harder. The third one contains huge jump pads and it is possiuble, when moving fast in a firefight, to just launch yourself off the side, losing one of your "lives". 4) Can't save, and it goes on a while 5) Can't regen your health, no health pickups. So coupled with the lengthy game over, the prolonged jacking in segment, and the fact even if you get almost to the end you need to do it all again, it's a fucking PITA 6) The enemies you fight in there (two basic ones) were clearly designed to be fought when could a) fly and b) shoot a lock on missle in addition to your regular shots
I'll cool on it over time. Just leaves a bit of a bad taste. The game didn't put a foot wrong until there IMO, so it's a bit of a surprise.

The green insect-shaped enemy is the one with which I can't deal - it strafes about the place so damn quickly, and it's *really* small.
You can't match its movement speed, or its maneuverability, as you could in Cyberspace.
Without a lock-on missile at your disposal, you have to try and lead your shots (while using a reticle that's one pixel wide); either that, or let it get right up in your face so you stand a chance of hitting the bloody thing, but that's risky as it'll be bombarding you with projectiles the entire time.

It would help if you could ADS, but that's not really a feature in System Shock - holding L2 just zooms in a bit.
*Such* a bummer, as the game really hadn't put a foot wrong before that point. It's like if Bed of Chaos were the final boss in Dark Souls.
Anyway, I'm gonna stop whining now (until I've tried and failed a few more times, at least!).

Hmm that sounds a bit poo. I remember Malek saying earlier that the pc remaster wasn't like that. Wonder why the ps5 is. That's a bit odd

Yeah, that's why the shotgun is the way to go. Fires three shuriken things and increases the chances of hitting them. Just don't fire it close to surfaces as I think it ricochets. They do fly in a loop so you can somewhat predict their moevement. Still shit though. Shitty shit. Shame.
Like I say though. I had 28 fucking amazing hours up til that point so...

28 hours?! Wow, you've done far better than I - I'm at 40 (and still haven't rolled credits yet).
What, in here? How do you know?
Ignore me (arf!). Just a poor attempt at self-deprecation... which, ironically, is one of my stronger suits as a rule!

That's on my saves mind you. I've reloaded a LOT of saves. Total time probably isn't far off 40.
I've loved every minute (bar the end). Amazed it took me so long (physical weeks wise) but I did have the Elden Ring DLC dropping and then two weeks away so.. I suppose.

quadfather I believe it was released as a patch for the PC version, but included on the disc/download for PS and Xbox. All three versions of the game are now the same - new final boss included - but the PC version had to be patched to get it to this point. The console editions launched with this content already present. Hope that makes sense!

The question is whether the PC version has had *another* patch in the meantime, to improve the final boss fight by adding a HUD, healing items, and suchlike.
The PS version definitely hasn't.

There's some weirdness with the publisher being dickheads. There's a cost per-patch on MS/Sony's ecosystems and the publisher doesn't want to pay it basically, so patches are few and far between.

Ah right, so the other way around from what I was thinking.
Suppose that explains the white waypoint marker I have on my current map as that's new too

So I checked the Steam update logs, and they did release a small patch to show the player's cyber integrity in the last boss.
No health pickups though, I guess I remembered wrong.

Thanks! That's interesting.
The update in question came out in late April - no idea why it hasn't come to consoles, unless it's something to do with extra expense and/or hassle for the devs.
