If I'm making my own, I'll get some chuck steak minced up from a butcher, the butchers always react like I've asked them to do something horrific and question why I don't just buy some of their shit burgers they sell to the masses. I'd never contemplate buying mince from a supermarket for a burger.

We get it as my wife is NHS, but the list of professions that can join now is massive so it's worth having a look.

Last butcher I talked to about it was like "Yeah we don't do that", but he was an odd chap so maybe I will try someone else. Yes butchers aren't always the most amiable of shopkeepers I've found. Also they don't always have the cut of meat you may want when you pop in and also once they've finished doing any mincing for the day and cleaned the mincing machine they won't mince a bit just for you so getting there earlier in the day rather than later can help. I tend to buy say £15 of mince and make a couple of burgers for the freezer, then just source my next mince before I've used up what's in the freezer.

The mince we get from the supermarket here seems pretty good, we get the mixta so it's a mix of pork/beef. I think the pork gives it the fat you need. Nothing scientific about though, just makes good patties that don't fall apart.
Also have found that Mary Berry's recipe for White Cottage Loaf is enough to make 4 very good burger buns.

Jeez, Maccies is shite, a few times a year I'm dragged there by the family and have to sit like a weirdo with no food to eat as I just can't bear it, their signature burgers (or whatever they were called) were just about edible but they don't even do them anymore. Edit: think you got a result with the 'chicken burger' instead. I actually don't mind it. Like it's obviously shite but it doesn't pretend to be anything else. It's relatively cheap, readily available and fills a hole. It's like Greggs really innit. If you’re at a London terminal train station and you want to get something semi-filling and somewhat satisfying to eat for less than £2,IMO you can’t do better than a McDonald’s double cheeseburger.

The only thing I ever liked were the bacon and egg mcmuffins and the old thick shakes that nobody seems to make any more.

The only McDonalds burger I really enjoy as a quick pick up is the saver menu triple cheeseburger. Some kind of magic happens with that burger with the 3 cheese slices, three greasy patties, bun and sauce. Don’t get me wrong it’s crap but very tasty crap.

There seem to be a few forumites that live in some village out of an idyllic children's book. Cubby fessed up to living in 100 Acre Woods recently

It's pretty bland here really aside from the odd people who show up trying to sell you stuff or their services.

Ended up going to Five Guys in Cardiff yesterday on the way to The Offspring gig. It was totally worth it, thoroughly enjoyed my burger and those cajun fries went down a fucking treat. I am sure the fact that I hadn't eaten for nearly 24 hours before it had nothing at all to do with how much I enjoyed it.

Did anyone ever figure out what was in a Big Kahuna burger?

Pineapple doesn't belong on anything, not burgers, not pizzas, not toast.

What about beetroot? Not that I would ever have it on or off of a burger but my old man always would.

Don't get me started. Aussies always put beetroot in every goddamn burger. Perhaps it tenderises the 'roo meat or some shit.

Popped into Five Guys today, for the first time, can't say as I was impressed given the price, burgers were nothing special, ate in but frankly it's like a slightly better McDonalds. Did a weird thing with the chips, oh sorry fries, had a regular so had a polystyrene cup full of chips and then he proceeded to fill the rest of the bag with chips, so had to dig down through the chips to get the burgers out.

Yeah, the "Little" fries there are a large anywhere else. Never go regular at Five Guys. Or do, if you're feeding a small family.

Well it was evident looking at people's table's the small was a poxy little cup full so naturally I opted for what I thought would be slightly bigger portion rather than about 4X as much.

Can't speak for UK Five Guys I guess, but here at the locations near me in California, even the Little, despite being a small cup, is still half a bag of fries regardless actually. Never had the Regular now I think of it.

Yeah the way they work out the portion is put that small cup in the bag, and then throw more fries in until the bag becomes translucent

Me and my son went to one near here when it first opened. The guy told us not to bother ordering more than one portion of fries. He was right.
