All quiet is a great film but it's been done before, it's literally a remake. EEALO is weird and funny. I'm happy it won. Although if RRR had been nominated...that would have been interesting  |

Like most thing Oscars, there’s more to the recipients than just the film in the raw. Ke and Brendan were terrific performances but there’s also the weigh in of their comeback stories. Jamie Lee Curtis was arguably a lifetime award. Etc etc.

The thing you have to remember about the oscars is that it isnt really about 'the art', its an industry award given out by rich people to benefit themselves.
Its a very cynical take, but 'best' is a very loose metric. You saw it when people lost their minds that Andrea Riseborough had the temerity to get a nomination for a movie nobody ever saw from a handful of people who respected her acting in it.

Some of the awards never quite make sense to me. Best director is usually just whoever directed the best film, not who did the best job with the material they had.
Given the technical challenges and what they did to make it happen, something like Top Gun seems like it should’ve got one of those sorts of awards.

And for what it’s worth he did do the shortest acceptance speech ever, but it was because he didn’t expect to win and didn’t write anything rather than any kind of snub to the award.

Nah, he’s a supporting actor. He wasn’t the direct protagonist or lead, he’s there to support Michelle Yeoh’s character to reach the conclusion of the story. Supporting doesn’t mean small role.

Also if the academy did go that route of splitting the difference they’d probably just do what they did with Judas and the Black Messiah and make both actors Supporting, so Yeoh would have changed categories rather than Ke.
