No deep or interesting point made. More just let's talk about the game and leave the author's issues to some other thread for the people who like to debate such topics and this thread for the people who would like to enjoy and discuss the new addition to their hobby. The topic will die down within hours and everyone will be free to talk about where the sorting hat put them by the end of the week. But this is part of ‘The hobby’. I saw a number of tweets in the build up to this game coming out and even now along the lines of "If you buy this game, then you're an awful person and if we are friends I want nothing to do with you". And I get that anger, trans people are a marginalised group constantly getting trampled upon by all corners of society it seems and for some Harry Potter books/films were escapism, perhaps their favourite version of it and now the author is using her power to punch down and stomp on those people. But I guess to the average buyer who isn't privy to all JK's done, the stance can seem quite aggressive. We're in a situation now where I've seen people attacking other trans people for buying the game and playing it themselves, the people they urged to protect. There's even a site that's collating names of streamers in a database and sharing it online to find out if they streamed 'that wizard game'. It's that kind of behaviour that doesn't set a good look if you want people on your side. Again, I can totally see why, it must be pretty disheartening in spite of all your efforts to get people to boycott the game you look at the viewing figures on Twitch and see 1m people watching streams of the game.

Unfortunately I don't think some realised video game boycotts simply just don't ever work. A mass boycott wasn't gonna happen when the game is tied to a global franchise with such a broad appeal outside of games. And if you're on your little echo chamber on social media it might seem like you could be reaching the right people but it's not indicative of how the real world operates and prob the shock to see the reality kick in. The best you can hope for is to be content that no money of yours goes into JK's pockets, maybe you persuaded someone else to do the same and keep increasing awareness of how awful she is.
Actually prob pretty rough for trans people over the next few days I'd imagine. Seeing a bunch of people gleeful to think buying buying a game is anti trans activism and proudly letting it be known how they feel. If you're someone that believe what JK says about how every sale of anything to do with HP at this point is tacit endorsement of her views and you see how popular the game is...can be rough.

I've heard a few people say about that endorsing her views thing. Did she actually say that, or is it extrapolation from a tweet where someone asked how she felt about all the readers of her books she's lost, and she replied with some sarcastic answer about just reading her latest royalty check makes her feel better or some such?

The more attention on how shitty JK is the better. I'm just saying for those that hoped for a massive dent of sales or attention, it wasn't going to happen. Broken viewing figure records on Twitch and the game isn't even out for general release yet. |

I think it's perfectly possible to think Rowling is a dickhead but enjoy the game and universe. Humans are great at cognitive dissonance.
I won't begrudge anybody who buys or looks forward to it.
