So surely then this is something that should be highlighted as a positive thing? Rowling may be a narrow minded wanker, yet others have taken her work and taken it upon themselves to publicly oppose her views. Yet the game is still being ignored.

We stand agains the jewish goblins yet don't stand so openly against dwarves in other games as fat red haired drink obssessed scotsmen, or orks as conflict obsessed cockneys. Stereotyping is rife in fantasy, particulary anything over 15 or so years old. We may as well rally against all of it.

I thought I'd avoided the issue, but my kids have just discovered this is a thing and now want it. sigh. It's much easier to boycott things when you don't want them. Just tell them that this makes them awful people and you don't love them anymore. Easy.

We may as well rally against all of it. Now you get it. Most fantasy is rehashed garbage.

I've always got it. Lots of people seem oblivious however. I've been offended by the scottish dwarf thing for fucking decades.
Yet I'm still able to enjoy the fiction regardless. Not sure where that puts me tbh. Fuck knows. There's a reason I try not to think about anything too much.
Is it possible to be offended by part of something, yet find yourself enjoying the rest of it regardless? I suppose not nowadays. You've either got to love something to death or hate every part of it.
If we're all pretending the game doesn't exist, why aren't film sites pretending the films don't exist? Is it publicly okay to like this shit or not? Who knows. Not me on a cold Wednesday morning. I don't even know what the fuck I'm typing anymore so I'll shut up.

It's all temporary anyway. Michael Jackson and Volkswagen are both cool again apparently.

Well, Game Sites aren't one big club, so it's kinda up to each site's editorial team how they feel about each issue.
I'm only familiar with RPS, and even that not recently, but it feels like they're in a 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' position.
In the past when they posted about problematic games they got criticised for profiting off the game at the same time as criticising it, and people claimed the criticism was just cynical clickbait. Which I assume is why they decided not to post about the game in the instance.
I doubt it'll make much difference, but i can't really criticise them for it.

Boycotting to raise awareness of the JKR being awful is great. I'm not doing it because a) I'm a terrible person and b) I think the game deserves a chance to stand on its own away from her views. The team that made it are not JKR, but yes, the Jew/Goblin is a classic terrible fantasy stereotype and should get in the bin.

That surely must be a calculated move to either show how the talk about JK isn't true and blown out of all proportion or an attempt to wind her up massively. We already know there are Jewish stereotype goblins. Does it have black characters with slavery derived names, too? The headmasters name is Phineas Nigellus Black. Which is wordplay for saying Black Black Black

I seen a video yesterday which basically claimed every band/rockstar, from Led Zepellin to Rolling Stones, Bowie, etc, etc were getting off with 14 year old groupies back in the days. It's just a fact that a lot of famouses are real wrong uns.

I think the Scottish Dwarf/Cockney orc thing falls into the "lazy stereotypes" bucket, rather than being casually (or not-so-casually) racist. Plus whilst I stand in solidarity with my fellow Celts, I don't think "Scottish" counts as an oppressed minority.
The Potter Goblin thing is a bit different. I think anyone writing a fantasy book in this day and age (rather than, say, 25 years ago) should be more aware of how things can be perceived, or of unconscious biases and prejudices.
So if you were working with a famous IP that had problematic elements, I think my instinct would be to run as far in the opposite direction as possible.

Doesn't make it any more acceptable though does it, lazy stereotyping or not. Look at the recent LotR show. Horrendous for it. "Oirish" travelling folk, Scottish dwarfs, cockney orks. That only came out last year.

Is this game any good?
Asking for a friend, non Jewish Goblin and does not identify as a transistor radio. Is Scottish but with no sense of humour.

It's surely got to be better than the films / books.

It’s a good game. I’m enjoying the world immensely. The story and characters are a bit pish so far though. Solid 7/8 at the moment. To be honest I just needed something light to play, and this fits the bill.

Can't say I've really strayed into it, but doesn't that place have a rep for being excessively toxic? One of the last places I would've expected to make this stand.

It's surely got to be better than the films / books. I've read all the books and watched all the films. Bang average other than the odd film and world building. I do like an exploration type game with many secrets and a bit of magic. Looks much better than I expected.

See this is where good games journalism would have tackled the issue rather than shied away and sat on the fence.
I genuinely didn't know the issues with JK Rowling were quite as open and shut as they appear to be as I'm quite shut off from all this cancel culture stuff and don't really follow any news or social media that has the finger on the pulse with this sort of thing. Nothing against fighting for what you believe in, I just can't justify prioritising figuring out who's a cunt and who isn't over other stuff in life. Which probably sounds a bit selfish and #partoftheproblem but there you go.
But I'd have probably been a bit more clued up if the likes of EG weren't worried about getting access to the next release after Harry Potter enough to sit in the corner like a coward and say nothing. You can't thump your chest like a lot of these places have over the easy stuff and then conveniently go radio silent when it suits. Basically they are just virtue signalling when there's an easy target to go after.

It's a nice looking game for sure and what I've seen of the gameplay, it looks solid. Was trying to see if my boy was keen but I don't think he's too bothered. Too busy killing people in Hitman these days.

Have EG said why they're not covering it or are people are making assumptions about their reasoning? I didn't think they'd shied away from this kind of thing in the past
Anyway, excellent job on the thread title

They're not covering it because of you. That's all they said. "We're not covering this because of Aunt Alison". So I don't know what you've done but there you go.
But also, I don't know.
