He was the worst, basically picked on looks rather than any acting ability.

I thought heās been pretty decent in some of the indie stuff heās cropped up in. Canāt do an accent worth a damn, but itās not been a case of āoh look itās Harry Potterā in most of them.

I think the easiest thing to do is to just wait until Rowling has been dead a hundred or so years and play the games or whatever then. Some people just have no patience

Mrs Hermit is reading Rickmans diary at the moment, can confirm he said Radcliffe is not and never will be an actor. Are you sure that's not Snape's diary she's reading?

The verbatim quotes online aren't that unequivocal, they say he still isn't really an actor but will undoubtedly produce/direct. Also, Radcliffe has very clearly demonstrated he can act. I'm quite looking forward to the Weird Al film.

While we're here, what are the odds that Rowling's pen name of Robert Galbraith was knowingly named after someone who tried to pioneer gay conversion therapy

Guess it's because the books themselves had no lasting power. Believe one of those books is about a man dressing up in women's clothing to murder people. And the detective is online stalked by trans people or something? A very clear allegory to what she feels her real life is like.

She denies it but her choosing the name Robert Galbraith when the conversion therapist chap was Robert Galbraith Heath is a pretty massive coincidence.
You would think someone who is known for being quite clever would Google a name before adopting it but no. So it's just a massive unfortunate coincidence.

Just watched my son play this on series s. Impressed with how it runs on it, I'd be more than happy to play it on that. FPS seemed solid enough and he had it on graphics mode. He's on a 26-28 inch Samsung monitor so not sure how it would look on a big TV. He is playing a female witch that he named after his girlfriend, not sure what that means.

I'm surprised the game lets you play as a character of the opposite gender. What would JK think?

I think the kids were pretty good, although maybe that's due to being around them for so long. I can't imagine Ron, Hermione, Harry, Malfoy, Neville etc... as anyone else.
While the books (and movies) are flawed in places, and hardly the best fantasy fiction ever, they do a great job of absorbing you in the world, and it's a world that's a fantastical escape that you'd want to be part of. (Hence the number of kids wanting to go to boarding school skyrocketing after the books) (even if the entire thing is a big rip-off of The Worst Witch)
I think that, combined with the regular releases of books and movies over a period of about 15 years, meant that a lot of people grew up with those characters and felt a stronger attachment than they might do with characters and worlds from other fiction. I wasn't a kid when I started reading them, but I must admit to feeling kind of sad after the last movie finished, having just spent 15 years with those characters and watching them grow up from little kids to basically adults.
Combine that with several of the characters and the author herself being held up as inspiring examples of things like feminism and you can see why the author and the characters would mean a lot to people. (again, I have issues with Hermione's portrayal, and clearly the books aren't as progressive as they were felt to be at the time, but that's how many people felt)
As such, I think JKR's fall to the dark side has hit a lot of those people harder than if it had been just some random author of one good book, or some random game developer/actor/director.
I think the actors get that, hence them distancing themselves from JKR's views pretty quickly.

It is very twee, public schoolboy/girl chit chat. If you can stomach that, there is a lot to like about the game. About 16 hours in now and its still very interesting, unlocking some more spells and crafts. A very solid game from a fairly unknown studio.

It's great. The world is what elevates it though. Top-tier stuff.
I literally skip every line of dialogue because I can't bare any of the characters, writing, or acting. Which isn't ideal. 15 hours in it's a solid 8/10, but I'm at the point where I'll probably just focus on the story once I've explored the map a bit more.
As others have said, if you happen to be into the Wizarding World it's probably a 9 or 10!

The boy is very much liking it. I had a quick look whilst he was playing last night and it certainly looks the part. I even recognised some bits. Map looks bloody huge as well.

My plan to have the girlfriend's new living room fully decorated and the TV on the wall in time for Valentines Day so she could play Hogwarts Legacy on her surprise new Xbox has hit a snag, in that the job was too massive to get done in time, but we'd decided since we were both so work busy we'd do Valentines on the 15th instead, so I switched to my back up plan.
Her TV was being safely stored in the spare bedroom on top of a desk, so I am setting it up in there for her temporarily so she can play tonight when she gets in from work.
To that end, I just managed to get a 2 seater sofa out of 1 room, round an awkward banister, up the stairs and round another tight corner single handedly. I am a golden god.
The TV remote apparently got lost in the move, so I need to grab a universal one from Currys before she gets home.
All this so she can play a game before July. She'd better enjoy the bloody thing now.

Will you inform her of the nefarious opinions and actions of JKR before she loads up, so that she has a chance to reject the game entirely?
