To that end, I just managed to get a 2 seater sofa out of 1 room, round an awkward banister, up the stairs and round another tight corner single handedly. I am a golden god. The number of times I've shouted that at people at work while moving furniture, and yet during todays struggle it never even entered my mind. Weird.

The boy is very much liking it. I had a quick look whilst he was playing last night and it certainly looks the part. I even recognised some bits. Map looks bloody huge as well. It's what I'm hoping Fable is like.

It's great. The world is what elevates it though. Top-tier stuff. I literally skip every line of dialogue because I can't bare any of the characters, writing, or acting. Which isn't ideal. 15 hours in it's a solid 8/10, but I'm at the point where I'll probably just focus on the story once I've explored the map a bit more. As others have said, if you happen to be into the Wizarding World it's probably a 9 or 10! You see, that's something I can't overlook in my enjoyment of a game. It's why I couldn't do AC Valhalla because ultimately it had such boring people who I didn't care about with such boring dialogue and when a game is asking you to invest a ridiculous amount of time in its world I really need to enjoy the characters.

I would normally agree for sure. The benefit of this is the world is a much more interesting (I think), the game itself is a third of the length, and the conversations are very short. But yes, the fact that the characters and dialogue are so terrible is very disappointing, at may end up being a deal breaker.

You can quickly read the dialogue and skip the audio easy enough. Not ideal, but I find myself doing it the vast majority of the time here (and in a lot of dialogue heavy titles, tbf).

Filling the space with characters and assets to make a populated world will eat into that budget. Horizon is cool but itös mostly empty space that you move through very fast. Fable will be slower and require more fine detail.

The thing about these more recent AC games is that, for me, it's more about the place and the traversal. I've rinsed Valhalla and all of its DLC (well, I'm still wrapping up Ragnarok) and it's basically comfort gaming. Some really spectacular scenery, and just a very chilled experience. Solve the environmental puzzles, search for secrets, pottle about. Definitely a lot of dead weight characters in there, but in the DLC specifically the narrower focus meant for much more developed characters and relationships and some excellent villains. I'm playing for the tourism, not for the mannequins, basically.

That's effectively my stance with all the Ubi games. I enjoy their worlds and the repetitive comforter loop of their gameplay. Though I don't play that many any more.

I liked Odyssey well enough when I was in Covid lockdown and didn't want to think about anything. But my appetite for map icon cleaning is pretty limited these days.

I skipped AC Odyssey and Far Cry 6, for example. The game's aren't "icon clearing" for me. Especially with Valhalla I actually enjoyed the "how the hell do I get in this building" treasure puzzles. There were similar ones in the new Horizon game on PS5 that I enjoyed for the same reason. But then I'm fortunate that I've felt the call of "MUST CLEAR MAP" much less as I've gotten older so I can pick and choose. Kinda why I was looking forward to Hogwart's Legacy. I'm largely indifferent to the franchise (although the music == Christmas to me, for some reason) but it seemed a good setting to pootle about in for a coupla dozen hours.

That JSS vid is one of their best in a very long time... Think I'll actually have to stick to my guns and give this a hard pass after watching that. Although given my Joe Rogan Spotify protest I'll probably last a couple of weeks.
Oh well, at least there are plenty of other games to get stuck into. Can't wait for that Atomic Heart...

Genuinely don't get the appeal of Dunkey, is he meant to be sarcastic or genuine? Is it possible to tell the difference or does he just swap back and forth seemlessly so he can defer any criticism?

Latest patch seems to have done a good job improving performance on Xbox/PC. Devs have said the PS5 version is getting the update soon.

So, you don't care Atomic Heart's developers may have ties with Russian funds?!? /s Hate to break it to you… Doesn't massively surprise me. I always got bad vibes from that one. Even now, a few years after its initial trailer, it's an absolutely stunning looking game that has come from a completely unknown studio and not much has been known about it. I was intrigued just to see if it actually looked as good in motion and it is going to be on game pass. I do like the idea of a Bioshock-like as well... but I'm good.

Dunkey can get a chuckle out of me at times, and sometimes his more serious videos (like acting in video games) actually make sense.

Was it ever a surprise? Feel bad for the Devs but if buying their game means money is going towards an economy that perpetuates an unjust war then sadly it's an easy skip. I notice Mick Gordon is donating his profit to an Austrailian Red Cross appeal for Ukraine.

I wouldn't feel too sorry for the devs. The CEO and founder are connected with a social media company and media organisations that are tightly connected with the Russian government (at least according to this video).

Yeah. I thought the claims in the video were tenuous enough - IT professionals work in social media, have Soviet-themed preview party for a game leveraging Soviet stuff heavily - but it's enough that it's a product of the Russian economy. Not that I was buying it day one anyway but I would have picked it up down the road.
I'm sure it'll do great with all the hype anyway.
