Probably one for a new thread, but what's the hardest part of any game you've played to date (without lowering the difficulty)? Mine was the Nergigante fight in Monster Hunter: World. The last boss in Quantum Break on easy level. I gave up

Last boss of Quantum Break was clearly not tested with someone that had red/green colour blindness. The tell that the big one hit kill attack was going to strick was literally impossible for me to see. I gave up and just watched the closing cutscene on YouTube.

Nergigante was hard but nothing in comparison to Malenia in elden ring.
There have been bosses that have made me give up before but not due to them being hard just bullshit.

From a mechanical standpoint, I completely agree that Malenia was harder. It probably took me more attempts to beat her, as well, but - and here's the crucial thing - none of my attempts to defeat Malenia took *50 minutes* before ending in failure!
That was easily the hardest thing about the Nergigante fight for me - losing the fight because I ran out of time,* then having to farm up/craft supplies before I could start again from scratch.
* With the lack of a health bar leaving me clueless as to how close I'd got to beating him, but that's another argument altogether.

I played with a lance though which probably made him a lot easier to beat as you could mostly turtle your way through it.

I was a bow guy. Contemporary videos show a backflip bow move that decimated Nergi, but it had been long since nerfed by the time I picked up MH:W.
Also, never having played a Monster Hunter game before (and not knowing what the hell I was doing!), I'd been playing the entire game wrongly up to that point, and had to learn on the fly. That didn't help.

Had another session on this last night and it gets more impressive. It really is a lovely world to explore, such good attention to detail. It's very whimsical and playful. Plus the combat is a lot of fun. Character models are a bit dodgy though.

The last boss in Quantum Break on easy level. I gave up That was a massive spike on difficulty, it was bizarre. I played the game on normal, had no real issues - if anything it may even have been too easy, and that's *me* saying that. But that last boss had some very cheap moments. I dropped it down to easy and it still took more attempts than I usually would persist with. Considering the rest of the game was not that difficult that sudden spike in difficulty could not have been planned.

Better to have Normal, Hard and Hardest. Disguise Easy as Normal to spare our insecurities! I think one of the Fire Emblems (either Path of Radiance or Radiant Dawn IIRC) did the opposite... The JP version's Normal, Hard and Maniac became Easy, Normal and Hard in the international release, but in name only, so everything was a lot harder than anyone expected based on previous games

Disagree, most games increase difficulty by increasing enemy health and reducing player damage resistance, that doesn't mean it will increase player skill. Halo is a series that shows how increasing difficulty can improve the experience, Halo Infinite did not do that however. Of course it means you will need to have more skill. If you can go in and defeat an enemy in just a few hits before they even have a chance to kill you, then whats the point. I dont want to go up against an oversized troll only for it to feel like its hitting me with a feather duster. It might just take longer, not require more skill as such, and test your patience more than anything else. Better, more varied, surprising AI behaviour would be a counter-example. Don't just draw things out, but make it more challenging. The first Crysis was a great example of how inventive a developer can get when making a game harder, without just turning everyone into a bullet sponge.

It's a bit like every fighting game in the 90s had an extremely cheap ass boss, SNK games were probably the worst offender in that department.

Shao Khan is a good example of specific type of terrible boss. You can zone him out and cheese him fairly easily because he taunts like an idiot but to actually beat him you have to change the way you played the entire rest of the game and just play to beat his nonsense rather than actually be good.
High damage and life bar, shitty AI.

Speaks out, amplifies and promotes others who do the same, funds anti trans movements to the point where she is name checked by global politicians, including Putin, as the face of the anti trans movement.

Any early impressions of this yet? I've got very little love for the world, lore etc, can watch the films and they're.. fine, my lad doesn't really pay it much attention. But this game looks fucking brilliant and I really want to play it.
