That one word in a paragraph seems to be doing a lot of heavy lifting for you. It is. Although British boozy professor does even less for me.

Anyway, not to derail the thread or anything, but one of my favourite lines in Frasier was when Niall was talking about Frasier having dated a number if women from the same extended family: "He went through that family like a recessive gene." I don't know why it tickles me so much but it's stayed with me The one random line that has stayed with me and still tickles me is when Frasier is moping around his apartment after a breakup and Niles is worried: "What is going on with you Frasier? You are showing all the classic signs of depression" "... that's because I am depressed, you twit!!" It's the delivery of the line that makes it. Sadly I can't find a clip of it anywhere. There's so many great lines, I'd love to watch it through again

In his favour at least Nick sounds English unlike everyone in Daphne's family, Anthony LaPaglia had a really bad day as Simon Moon.

Not running with scissors is my favourite bit.
It went a bit shit when Daphne’s family were introduced.

It’s fucking awful, but it’s essentially 30 minutes of that clip

I tuned into the morning channel 4 repeats just to gauge if I was interested in a new series. I seem to remember everything post-Niles marrying Daphne being shit but the episode where Niles has a heart operation was surprisingly moving.

Frasier was solid gold until Niles and Daphne got together, then became quite patchy.
Still a few great episodes in the later seasons though along with the one you mentioned - I'm quite a fan of Deathtrap, the one where Frasier and Niles find a 'human' skull under the floorboards of their old house. Both actors at their absolute pompous, deluded best.

Some of the later episodes are good and it's nowhere near a drop like Simpsons after s8 or Friends after...well...most of Friends.

I bet Lyndhurst does the thing where british actors appearing in US sitcoms have to put on this really overdone fake 'british' accent.

Have to say that Niles scene above is one of my favourites too. What's lost in randomly posting a clip is just how unexpected and delightful it was in the context of a Frasier episode. You sat down expecting the usual snappy dialogue and farce and then got broadsided with genuinely excellent three minutes of silent comedy.
I loved Frasier but knowing what an anus KG is has dampened my enthusiasm a lot.
Think people might be prematurely judging Nick Lyndhurst. A posh English professor is arguably excellent casting for him as he is extremely well spoken in real life. It's just everyone got to know him as Rodney from Peckham, and he was so convincing they assumed that was his natural accent, same as David Jason's. I certainly did.

He sounds like Jim Broadbent in Harry Potter. What if... all the british actors with horribly fake british accents on US tv are actually using their real accents, and it's their accents on UK tv that are fake?!

I met Nicholas Lyndhust once and he didn’t talk like that. A lot of actors talk extra posh when being interviewed to show contrast with the roles they’re known for. Eastenders actors often do this. It’s an affectation to make that seem like really good actors.

I mean it’s not at all unusual to have a “work” voice, is it? I absolutely do, gets even stronger dealing with US clients for some reason. I’ve watched back my interviews and I sound like I went to Eton
