Cheers, am talking to work now. I wasn't at the meeting because I'm signed off I'm fuxked on unfair dismissal, only been here 16 months Not a lawyer but can they have a meeting about your employment without you being there?! There can be a meeting if the person doesn't give reasonable grounds as to why they can't attend. Since you are signed off work, that is reasonable grounds not to have a meeting.

@dannobru What was the reason for the meeting?

Don't they have to give you a couple of written warnings prior to something like this? I guess if you're caught red handed stealing or punching a colleague or something heinous it's instant dismissal but surely not for this?

Yeah, gross misconduct or whatever is very different. If it's sickness record or whatever then you would expect there to be trigger points before this.

If he has been there less than two years, unfair dismissal doesnt apply unless its for a protected characteristic (they cant boot you for being gay, for example).
They can boot you for persistant ill health but they couldnt if that ill health was counted as a disability (see above). If you were there over two years they would have to show that they worked with you to make accomodations for your ill health before they acted, under two years, nope.

@dannobru
Regards signing on, please do it as soon as possible. There is generally a minimum of 5-6 weeks wait before your first payment. If the ‘sacking’ (I’m really sorry I don’t know what term to use) doesn’t ‘stick’ (ditto with the term) and you receive wages, get payment from another job or get some kind of package in the meantime it will just come off the first month’s award or the next so there is no disadvantage to doing so.
Obviously any savings/partner’s income etc can affect all of this. You and I converse regularly in the WH thread but it’s never about life stuff so I’m in the dark there sorry.
But don’t delay any necessary benefits. I was advising on this professionally for getting on for 20 years until this Spring so please take my advice on that stuff*.
Please get in touch with CAB/ACAS/union if applicable or a reputable private practice in employment law ASAP. Ask CAB for both financial and employment advice.
Just as importantly, please do get in touch with any medical professionals you might need to. I’m sure I’m not going to be alone in counting you as a firm favourite forumite and we need you well brother.
*unfortunately you wouldn’t believe how fast you lose the knowledge when you stop practising daily so can’t be much more help in terms of detailed advice 😞

We may not agree on everything (and what forum does?), but I reckon the vast majority of Font Geeks would concur that Danno is fucking awesome.
Hope you're doing okay, dude.

Yeah I got fired from a job for basically arguing with the guy who owned the company, because he was a bit of a nasty cunt. After checking with ACAS or whatever they're called, because I'd been there less that two years ago I had no rights. Sucks, but, cunts gonna cunt.

In the office and spoke to my boss. Said I would appeal it and he basically said ok, there's a process, but a bit of a hint that he wouldn’t support it actively
I'm absolutely bricking it

Our ex-head of HR hated anyone going off with stress and thought it was a load of shit, despite the amount of stress they would lever on folk to get them to quit. They were eventually investigated for dodgy dealings in hiring/firing with the old principal & had to go off with stress. Needless to say, everyone else revelled in the schadenfreude of karma calling. 😀

Try not to let it get on top of you. Follow the process and get an appeal in. Screw your boss.
