Reviews of the first season are coming in and they're pretty much all incredibly positive. A little surprising that the whole season was given for review which is unusual so HBO/Sony must have been very confident.
There's going to be a companion podcast hosted by Troy Baker with Neil Druckman and Craig Mazin that will release after every episode which should be good if the Chernobyl podcast that Mazin was also on is any indication.

I don't know about the Chernobyl podcast, but Mazin's Scriptnotes podcast is excellent. I only listen to it occasionally, but it is always really insightful into the art of script writing (and creative writing in general). |

Deliberately or not, I recognised pretty much every shot in the trailer as being in the game so, yeah, I dont think it will hold many surprises unless you didnt finish it.

First episode is excellent, there's plenty of stuff in the show that no matter how many times you've played the game you'll be seeing for the first time.

Yeah, both, but unless you're really familiar you won't really notice. Engagements do play out differently but not wildly so - there's only so many actions the enemy ai can do.

So, yeah I've played this game so many times but fuck that was a great first episode. And yeah it has similar things to the game but the act of it being an actual love action adaptation makes it feel fresh and different enough for me that I'm looking forward to watch all the other episodes.

I’m not sure I buy Lyanna Mormont as Ellie yet, but I’m reserving judgment as they’re intentionally making the characters a little softer and more relatable. Other than that, good start.
