Roughly 5 years or so I think.

But in Hollywood years people can be teenagers for years after, right?
I’ll level, I’d had a few when I wrote that. I might be wrong. All I’m saying is Bella Ramsey is a youthful person and time is on her side.

5 years in game, bearing in mind when they started filming the first she could probably pull off a "older" Ellie if they follow the games.
I reckon they will go a different way after first series. Maybe with some elements of part 2.

I would be really surprised if they followed the second game in season 2 at least. That would really only work for a final season and even then I'm not sure how well it would sit with viewers.

I think it could work. I had no issues with how they played part 2 and think it would make an interesting tv show. Especially the Moral grey area it flirts between.

I'm not sure she will be enough to carry the series by herself though. Maybe she will be though but have to see her play Ellie for a bit to decide.

I reckon they could do part 2's story over a couple of seasons. There is a lot of story there to cover and I'm sure they could add more to it. There are quite a few characters that could be given more to do than we see in the games.
Still would likely want something in-between though. Perhaps have a season focusing on the 5 year gap. Maybe bring in Abby during this and give her some more backstory and expand on the WLF.
Aiming for a total of 4 seasons seems reasonable. 5 might be pushing it if it was trying to stay very close to the plot from the games.
On Bella Ramsey, I only really know her from Game of Thrones, where she was fine, but didn't need to do much. I hear Catherine Called Birdy was a big success recently, but no idea if her performance had much to do with that.

I'm probably more interested in watching this than playing the games. From what I've seen of the games they're largely interactive movies anyway, so why not just cut out the gameplay and watch a movie instead.

Nah, the games have some brilliant gameplay and are kind of a more flesh out Uncharted - especially with stealth.
I won't lie, number 2 is a slog and could have lost about 6-8 hours but they ARE proper games.
My issue with them doing 1 and then 2 is you're really asking Pedro Pascal to sign up for not very long. I can imagine there's contingency in place but he seems to absolutely nail Joel, in ways I didn't expect.

I loved both of them, Part 2 possibly went on a bit long but I was never bored. Calling them interactive movies is pretty funny though.
There's plenty of scope for the 5 year gap between the two games for more seasons, depends on what HBO and Sony want to do, the first season took the best part of 12 months to film and that's not a viable route for a many season TV show.

Why did it take them so long to film it?

Largely so the location work could be done in the right season for the story rather than faking it, depending on how other seasons are written that wouldn't necessarily be a factor though.

First game for season 1
[br Prequel to 2nd game and build up Joel death cliff hanger season 2
Rest of part 2 season 3
Then whatever they decide to do for the final bit for season 4. Wonder if this would be before or after the games part 3 is released.

Yup. I did buy the remaster for the first game when I had a PS4 but never got around to it. Won't get a PS5 for it but might end up watching the TV series if it ends up being very good. Just thought it might as well be spoilered

It's the decent thing to do..might bring in some people who haven't touched the games.

Do people think it will be totally faithful then?
I wouldn't mind a few different story arcs to keep it interesting. Especially having played it again fairly recently.

The rivalry between the WLF and the Seraphites in TLOU2 was treated like it was a long standing decades old feud similar to Israel/Palestine, but never really felt earned in that game. Too little time passed without showing a lot of how it got there. If you're gonna do that for a season 2 I personally feel you have to lay down the foundations for it early. I also feel TLOU2 was pretty poor with a worse ending than 1 so I'll be happy if they just do the one season and be done.
I think TLOU borrows so much from other film, literary works that on its own as a TV show, I think it will be just about passable. Has that much talent behind it while seeming pretty faithful to the source that if the adaptation doesn't work then there's not much hope for game to live action adaptations at all.

I don't really remember the ending of 2. I remember the twist with...Abby? Ali? Can't even remember her name tbh.
It certainly, from a story perspective, was a step down from the first.

I thought 2 had a much stronger story, personally. If it weren’t for 2, I think my general opinion of this franchise would be pretty low.

Well, pretty sure it had comics, and it has a sequel and a TV show now.
If it were just the first PS3 game and its DLC, sure, not a franchise. I think it safely is one now though.

I wouldn't go as far to say my opinion would be pretty low, but I would say 2 elevated the series to another level. I thought it had a few issues (mostly that I thought we could have had more interaction between the Ellie and Abby threads), but on the whole they pulled it off very well. 1 was simpler and I felt less ambitious in what it wanted to do. It does it well, but doesn't stand out as much for me (the DLC was excellent though).

Part 2 had a lot more going on with the plot, Part 1 is a fairly straightforward story of go from place A to B with misadventures along the way, while 2 has more than that. One thing I think the show will have is more time to develop the sort of stuff that you don't tend to do in video games as it doesn't really involve a player actually playing a game.

I’ve been sent early cuts of nine episodes - it’s going to be my betwixtmas treat.
I’m assuming the series will end where Part 1 ends. Only thing is the TV series could easily overtake the games, GoT style. I’m guessing they’ll cover the first two games and then do their own thing if it’s a hit.
I think it will be a moderate success. I think zombie fatigue will turn some viewers off.
