Might want to spoiler that last bit for the TV wankers. Good point. Just removed that bit.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle it. I'm impressed by the cast announcements though. All three have great credits behind them without being so established as to be distracting (ie. Ed Sheeran in GoT).

Given how successful the first season was critically, in the ratings and now in awards season, I'd imagine anyone who fit a role for the following season(s) would be telling their agents to get them into consideration.
Sure there's a huge amount of absolute twats out there who are an issue but it could be a huge break.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if most of season 2 is new material and certain events from the start of Part 2 are the cliffhanger ending for the season. I think this is very likely. I'm guessing they'll alternate between life in Jackson and the WLF base, and focus on Joel and Ellie's estrangement - at least for the first half.
I think the fact there has been no mention of casting for Lev and Yara may mean that they will appear in S3.
I'm not putting money on this. It's totally speculative and will be proved to be bollocks if they announce the Lev casting tomorrow (if so, I hope it's Ian Alexander...surely it will be?).

For those who’ve played the game, there’s a significant point midgame where I’m guessing they’ll attempt to reach as a season finale. Total speculation though.

Isabela Merced (Dora the Explorer) has been cast - I assume as Dina. I’d be disappointed if the only Jewish character in the history of video games is now Latina.

BJ Blazkowicz!
Although I had to Google that one, the only other I can think of is Kyle from the South Park games and that doesn't really count.

From IMDB: She was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Katherine, a Peruvian from Lima, and Patrick Moner, who was born in Louisiana, and has Polish and Slovak ancestry. She is the middle child of her family; she has an older brother, Jared, and a younger brother, Gyovanni.

It's mental that you have to dig that far though to find any and that trans people are better represented in gaming. I would like to hope it's a general oversight from Devs as it's not something I even thought about before today.

She may have some Jewish ancestry but it’s not really great representation. The weird thing with Dina was that I knew she was supposed to be Jewish before it even came up in the plot. They got the subtle cues spot on. It would be disappointing having done such a good job in the game to fuck it up for the show.

Mazin and Druckmann are both Jewish so it's not likely they'd have deliberately not cast a Jewish actor but possibly no one else fit.

I can’t find any website, apart from one of those really shit ones with incorrect celeb facts, that says she’s a Christian.

It's strange as Dina directly refers to her faith in a extended quiet moment in the game when you enter a Synagogue. I'm surprised this has passed under a lot of the usual publications who would be the first to pipe up.

No, her family history suggests she might be, neither of us actually know and the producers seem like they’d either know or would have considered it. You’re assuming she isn’t because she’s Latina, and seem to be making up statements she’s never made.
Don’t need to do your usual arsy responses thanks.

The only references to her faith in the internet say she’s Catholic. That might not mean she definitely is, but why are you arguing she might be Jewish? Unless of course she’s from one of those famous Mexican Jewish acting dynasties we’re always hearing so much about.

Not what I said at all, but if you’re insistent that it’s impossible for Latina people to have Jewish heritage and you want to cite an internet spam site on her background then you’re the expert so carry on.

I'm certain I read an interview with Druckmann after the first season aired where he was asked if the plan was to go straight into part 2 and he'd said they were looking at taking some time to pad out Joel and Ellie's lives in the time between part 1 and 2. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if most of season 2 is new material and certain events from the start of Part 2 are the cliffhanger ending for the season. It's been a decent success for HBO so they're going to want to stretch this over as many seasons as they can. I can see this - then need to keep him in it

They'll probably use some of the flashbacks that are in Part II as something to form more stuff around while keeping the big reveal Ellie confronting Joel that he lied to her for later.

Might as well just assume she’s Inuit. There no evidence for it of course, but she might be right? In any case, even if her great great grand aunt was Jewish that really doesn’t change a thing anyway. That doesn’t make it appropriate casting.

Tbh I don't even remember the character you're all talking about. Was she early on? I remember bits with Abby but it was 4 years ago and a fucking slog of a game.
Good but a slog.

Geefe, did you actually play it? No shame in saying you didn’t, but you’re sounding like the kid at school who absolutely saw Trainspotting and loved the bit where they were being all heroiny?
Or do you just skip every cut scene and piece of dialogue because you have no interest in playing a narrative based game?
Or are you just being deliberately obtuse? Yep, that’s our Geefy.

I’m pretty sure Leisure Suit Larry was Jewish… probably not a great example.

I’m pretty sure Leisure Suit Larry was Jewish… probably not a great example. I just immediately thought of Wadjet Eyes's The Shivah, but it probably isn't as well known as the Blackwell games (and even those are pretty niche).

I don’t think his faith is ever defined, apart from a couple of lines which point toward a conservative Christian background typical of Texas.

I can’t actually remember if it’s established. The state the world’s in you’d forgive him for not believing in a Magic Sky Grandpa.

I did but it took me a few months over autumn 2020. It was just such a slog. I remember set pieces and the Abby reveal because it stood out but I just remembered coming away thinking I didn't get much from it. Gameplay was a step up but it was double the length it needed to be and I don't remember a fucking thing about the plot other than revenge for Joel and that's it. I know it was well made but, similar to True Detective 3, it was the less than the sum of its parts.
