I dunno, I think it's called acting. Like all the actors in history who pretend to be a different age like every teen movie where all the teens are played by mid to late 20 year olds. I didn’t know you could act your face older. I have no issues with Ramsey being cast as Ellie, I just don’t think she’s as good as you all seem to. Part of it is that a large part of her lines, especially in specific memorable scenes, are direct copies. She seems to be getting most of that stuff. She plays a 14 year old well, I just don’t think she’s suddenly going to look 5 years older in season 2, and she’ll need to do a lot of heavy lifting there. She naturally looks very young, and I think it’ll be a harder sell there by the nature of how well it works here.

I had completely forgotten about it, was bloody ages ago though. It’s exactly as it plays out here

The hand squeeze was a nice touch. I'm such a soft touch since having a daughter, they get me straight away with stuff like that.

Tuned out of that episode a few times tbh. A bit too much of not much going on, without the charm and performances of the Bill & Frank episode.

You mean like a 47 year old Pedro Pascal playing a grey haired guy pushing 60 and everything that comes with that. Yeah, seems impossible.
What?

No, I don’t think he acted his face older either.

David Harbour acted his face to the same age as Ron Perlman.

I’d hire an 8 year old to play a middle-aged housewife. That’s how this acting phenomenon works, right? I’m new to it.

There was far too much padding in that one. Weakest yet For sure. Still, good TV.

That is the same as having a young looking 20 year old play a 19 year old yes.

I think that suffers a bit from not coming at the end as it did with the game, once the main narrative had cleared and it took you back for a welcome dive into the character where you weren't desperate to find out what happens in the main arc. It's a little jarring.
It wouldn't work like that here obviously, but I also think it's an almost uniquely rare example of the game doing narrative better. I replayed Left Behind recently and it's a real high point (contrasted with the other mall section which is dull in every way and just filler for people who wouldn't pay £15 without combat) actually getting to do that stuff, dick around in the masks and the booth and pretend to play Mortal Kombat. The actors have hours to build up that relationship and you're a part of it, not worrying about combat either so it just breathes and all pays off more in the end, although I do think the two actors did the final scene together brilliantly and it must be fucking hard to build chemistry that quickly with a stranger. They did a great job.
I liked it but feel with most of this it's at its best when it steps just a little further away from imitation. I'm a bit too attached to the original so always end up comparing.

Not as impactful as the others, but a great episode nonetheless

I liked it but feel with most of this it's at its best when it steps just a little further away from imitation. This is where I'm at. It was enjoyable overall but I feel like the 2 problems are that it followed a similar template to the (arguably superior) Frank/Bill storyline from a few episodes back and also that it hewed extremely close to the Left Behind DLC - at least from what I can remember. I found myself fighting the urge to pick up a Playstation controller and find a "skip cutscene" option a couple of times.
Also, a 14-year old character being played by an actor who looks roughly the same age is one weird thing to complain about, even by internet standards.

I am enjoying the show a lot but I think I'd enjoy it more if I hadn't played the games as I think the way the story was told in it was better but that's always going to be the case when a show is based on something you've read/played before. The show isn't really made for us anyway, there's a few bits of fan service shown in but it's aim is to appeal to a wider audience. I'm really hoping they've played Joel as a little softer so we can see him become a vicious bastard in the next two episodes. A bigger impact for the switch.

Yeah definitely the weakest episode for me. Just not really enough happening. In saying that, really well shot and acted. I thought Bella Ramsay was great.

I'm getting a little bored now. Yeah it's a great series but that episode was basically a copy of the dlc. I would have preferred some of the other episodes being longer rather than having that episode. Tlou is perfect without the dlc and show didn't need it either. Plus the way the episode ended wasn't anywhere near as good or impactful as the ending of the dlc.

I think it'd just be easier to watch it for what it is and ignore the game and just spot the similarities here and there. Well, that's what I'm doing anyway.

Yea it is what it is I guess, I've actually quite enjoyed watching a few YouTube videos spotting the easter eggs and the like or comparing the episode scenes with the game side by side. That said, that was a pointless episode, I think it worked just fine as DLC but not an episode in this series, I do think the series has shied away from the gunfights/encounters with infected etc, the game (1st one anyway) is a survival game at heart and the combat/action was one of the best bit about it it's not like plenty of other other TV shows don't have plenty of blood and guts.

I would like to have seen Joel make at least one Molotov/nail bomb/2x4 with nails on it.

I need to start thinking about the dream casting for Abby. Basically someone who can act but could also complete the Ninja Warrior course. [\spoiler]
