While I enjoyed it and thought it did the Left Behind stuff in the past well it was just a bit odd in the setup. Spoilers for the show and DLC in the DLC the flashback to her time in the mall with Riley is done as she's searching for medical supplies in a different mall which is where Joel is fucked up. So it made some narrative sense to do a flashback to the only other time she was in a mall with someone she cares about not just looking around some derelict house. Obviously dressing two different malls with tons of infected, plus a crashed helicopter is just a little bit too expensive even for a show with this budget. Oh and no pain in the arse fight with lots of raiders once you do find the medical supplies and head back to Joel. Also I was impressed a Boston Halloween store had a Judge Death mask, something the British crew Mazin brought with him from Chernobyl put there? |

I still think the game basically does everything better than the show. The Bill and Frank episode was very good, but also a complete departure.
And I know she’s getting praise but I don’t really think Ramsey is great as Ellie. She’s playing it far too close and isn’t favourable in the direct comparison. Pascal is similar but a little softer and it’s fine.
She also looks about 12, which is fine for the intended 14 years old, but she’s not going to age to look a capable and confident 19 year old for Part 2 and I don’t see her being believable in that role.

She is already 19. She probably doesn't look it to you because you are getting old, it's the same as when you see students now and think they look really young. Its not them it's you.

I know she’s 19, but is playing a 14 year old. So how are they going to make her look 19 for next season when she’s still going to look 12?
That’s nothing to do with me being 40.
Edit: Storm Reid, the actress playing Riley, is also 19, but looks older than Ramsey, and played a 17 year old in the show. Ramsey just looks very young.

There’s this amazing thing called makeup and acting that can make people look and seem younger or older than they are. If you see shots of Bella Ramsay in real life she looks older than she does in the show. There’s also the natural passage of time where this was shot a year and a half ago and season two won’t shoot for another year or so.

Ramsey has been and continues to be fantastic as Ellie, I had my doubts before the show started but I'm glad to be proven wrong.

Yeah I really enjoyed that, great performances. This is up there with watchmen in terms of how faithful its being, almost shot for shot at times. But where watchmen was almost "too" faithful, TLOU is making changes that benefit a viewing audience.
Which also keeps it fresh for people that know the story.
I honestly think any critisim Ramsey is getting is purely because she looks different to the games ellie. Which is fucking stupid, just enjoy this version of her.

Yeah, she’s softer and a little more naive than Game Ellie, but that’s absolutely fine, and makes sense for a TV show. Same with Joel tbh, he’s far more vulnerable, emotionally, than Troy Baker’s plaid shirt.

I think some gamers seem to forget that slaughtering tons of people and monsters in video games is so you have something to do (plus it's fun), if Pedro and Bella as Joel and Ellie had the kill count their game counterparts did over the course of the games there'd be calls for it to be pulled from the schedules not wondering how many awards it was going to pick up.

I've seen Japanese historical dramas in which the same (old) actors play characters from childhood (like literally pre-teen) into middle-age so compared to those Ramsey is fine.
I never played the DLC so this was new to me but I thought it felt a bit too thematically similar to Ep 3. They were both good but 2 episodes out of 9 devoted to romance side-stories is maybe a bit much.
