Anyway, that Cancelo move is well weird. He's clearly pissed Pep off badly. Making room for Mendy? Seen a bit of 2+2=5 around the fact Man City have a buyback clause in place for Pedro Porro... ๐ค

I think itโs fair to say the Liverpool CL/PL winning side played some of the best football of the Premiership era.
That their fans didnโt get to experience a real title run in and the fact they lifted the trophy in front of an empty stadium is pretty hilarious though.

I'm worried about this Caicedo stuff. Don't get why the club keep bidding. Hopefully it's not blind optimism.
Also, even in the unlikely event we get a breakthrough surely Chelsea will come in and outbid us.
From the rumoured alternatives I like the idea of Ibrahima Bamba instead. Supposedly got a โฌ30m release clause we can activate.

Tbh I think it's just the "best team ever" hyperbole that was around at that time that makes people want to downplay their achievements a bit. I don't think any sane football fan would doubt they were a fantastic team, even if they didn't win quite as many trophies as they perhaps should have.
I wouldn't be surprised if Klopp left at the end of the season tbh, their squad needs a massive refresh and with the likes of Newcastle, Arsenal and Man Utd back in the mix now, it will be extremely hard to replicate that same level in the league.

I think it smacks a bit of desperation tbh, with Partey injured now and Elneny potentially out for the rest of the season. They must really think our title challenge may completely derail if we don't get an adequate, PL-ready replacement.

Where does Klopp go, though? What sort of job would he take? Can't see him doing international and I doubt Real/ Barcelona would be for him. Possibly back to Germany?

I don't know. If the rumours around Bellingham are true, that's a hell of a start to a rebuild. It's not like the squad is riddled with issues in the way the Arsenal or Utd squads were at their nadir. Depends if Klopp has the motivation or fancies a break. If the owners do something mental like replace Klopp with Gerrard then they could be in for a 90s-esque spell in mid table. However I think that's unlikely as their board has a pretty good record of sensible decisions

Sean Dyche has been confirmed as manager of Everton, and Liz Truss is Prime Minister.

If Partey is out for more than a couple of game that really is likely terminal for our chances. All the more reason not to panic and to focus on doable targets in the limited time left. It's precisely why I'm worried!

Aye, definitely desperation - although some.reports that the injury isn't too bad. Definitely targeting PL ready players though, and prepared to pay the premium for them.

The only vague hope is that this is what happened when we bought White from them. Had a couple of bids rejected and third one accepted. However White hadn't pissed them off.

Nor did you bid for him right at the end of a window without any chance of their getting a replacement.

Apparently Inter, having been rebuffed when enquiring about Lindelof, have now enquired about Maguire.

Maybe we should try and loan Cancelo and use Zinchenko in the Partey role. City would like to help us keep it interesting wouldn't they?

Good thing with Abramovic gone Chelsea canโt just break the transfer market anymore.

Hearing he's agreed a 35 year contract. Good bit of business.

I guess FFP is really just three random letters of the alphabet then.

In some ways I'm more annoyed with Everton signing one of their players for more than he's worth.
FFP is real, especially UEFAs stricter version but amortisation means they are fine for now. What would really help is every PL club agreed not to buy from them as few foreign clubs could afford their cast offs. Selling is how Chelsea release a lot of that FFP pressure, especially sales on fully amortised players.
Intuitively it seems ridiculous but if they complete Gallagher and Enzo today for the reported fees that equates to a 20m or so accounting profit and brings them closer to satisfying FFP for this season.
Was reading if they complete the Enzo deal they'll have spent more in 2 windows than Arsenal in the past 8, and it feels like we've spent a lot.

The Chelsea thing is really weird. Apparently, it's another structured offer they've made when Benfica have repeatedly said "release clause or fuck off".
Seems likely he'll be part of a bidding war in the summer, so why not just pay the clause?

At what point does the rug get pulled and Chelsea do a Leeds?
Is doing a Leeds even possible anymore?

Watch City take Pedro and Spurs miss out again for messing about. Though it does feel like Sporting have been doing everything they can to mess things up.

FFP does somewhat prevent that. It limits the possible accounting losses.
More likely would be that they get into a position where they can't sign any players without breaching and being docked points. I guess if the docked points meant relegation...

Everton weren't far off this position from what I've read. Probably quite relieved to receive that Newcastle offer.

I honestly think Boehly is completely fucking Chelsea. Itโs the most astonishing gamble that gets less and less likely to pay off the more they spend. Itโs not even about FFP. Itโs spending devoid of strategy and with no consideration for offloading the inevitable flops. It is literally what a fourteen year old would do if they ran a football club.
