Everything's very staid. Guess it's Liverpool's to lose.

Arsenal could do with an Isak upfront, tbh. If he could play more than 25 games a season he’d probably be there already. Its come up a few times but you’d be hard pressed to find a forward who’d be a better fit in terms of their style and ability for Arsenal.

I'm still very confident that when we have a 'normal' side rather than a compromised one with people playing out of position that we'll look as good as ever. Beginning to think that might come too late for this season unless City start dropping points as well. You were only missing two starters today though weren't you? One of whom came on second half. Pretty standard at this stage of the season.

Pretty standard at this stage of the season. Odegaard and Calafiore yeah. We were playing Partey out of position at right back with Timber shifted over to the left, and without Odegaard we're playing a different 4-2-4 system with Trossard sort of in central midfield in certain phases rather than 4-1-2-3 we 'd otherwise play. Also Timber is still not fully fit, nor White who came on for half an hour at the end. It's certainly improving injury wise, but we're easier to stop than 'normal' as we have less threat down both flanks and less threat through the middle. Also not quite as defensively solid. It is what it is, we got fairly lucky last year.

Oh yeah Calafiore, forgot him. Fair enough.

Newcastle played really well, that shouldn't be forgotten. Doubled up out wide in defence and had Dan Burn mark Havertz out of the game.

There's also a world where Tomiyasu starts this game to stop Gordon. He's our best 1v1 wide defender but never fit.

Beginning to think that might come too late for this season unless City start dropping points as well. We'll still be there or thereabouts. Agree that it's a disrupted side and injuries that are having the biggest impact. We've covered average performances with set piece goals but can't do that all the time.

It's more that the side hasn't been settled and changes are enforced rather than planned. Constantly chopping and changing the line up disrupts the flow imo. And obvs desperately missing Odegaard, not only our best creative player but also the one that leads the press.

You have to go back to Villa on 24th August for the last time we had a first choice XI start in their best positions with none of them getting injured or sent off midway through.
Also had/having a very tough run of fixtures. Newcastle today just plain better than the XI we put out. Inter away and Chelsea away won't be any easier.
However the payoff will hopefully be a 10-15 game run at some point of 'easier' games with some fresher players coming back ready to contribute.

These south coast teams are kicking arse.
(For Southampton a goalless draw counts as kicking arse.)

Guess the 'valiant effort' against Spurs was just to much for them.

Overtook West Ham thanks to their 3 nil loss. New regime already moving up the table.
