Easy to forget last season was seen as above expectations. whose expectations and what were they? I know the media wrote us off because we lost Kane . We were fortunate to have that 10 game start without a loss as we could have quite easily finished 8th if the form was similar . For me the difference yesterday was a complete lack of belief to actually score from us. Great football but just mentally fragile He's got a 5 year plan and definitely didn't expect us to start like we did. Think it was a meeting with the fans with him and Levy when they talked about it all.

I'll take a second tough year under Ange if the project comes good (much like the early Arteta years). I'm not daring to say we'll be as well oiled as Arsenal are now, but I do want us to maintain faith this season in the hope it'll work out (even though I had my own wobble about the team after the Newcastle game). As well as the right manager, you also need to spend a fuck ton of money. It's just the reality these days. Depressing.

To be fair to Ange that game was an enormous improvement over recent trips to St James Park

Got to blame the players for that. Should have been about 3-1 up by the time Newcastle scored.

The results aren’t there but you can see the style of play he is trying to create and I’m on board for the journey. I would imagine once he is happy the style is fully embedded he’s start looking at the marginal gains on set pieces etc.
Barring some sort of disaster, we’d be mad to sack Ange at this stage and end back at square one. Need to see this one through.
Need to remember we’ve played New Astley away and Arsenal at home. Two of the tougher games we’re going to have this season. Dominated both games. If we can find a way to turn that dominance to goals we’ll be golden.
I feel we need to stay in the cups this season though. League is going to tough with so many good and improving teams.

Arteta initially focused on culture change and his "fogging eh-standards" were more about attitude and work rate. Most of the money in his first year went on solidity (White, Gabriel and Partey) and paying off those who didn't bend the knee (Ozil and Auba). We didn't really play further up with the bravery Spurs do till much later on once we had Saliba.
Obviously not followed Spurs as closely but it seems like he deserves more time and funds. It's clearly a different project with different priorities to the other one in North London. He doesn't seem to be following the Arteta template to me.

I'm not saying the projects are the same rather I admired that Arteta was given the time to allow the project to bed in; his first couple of years came with middling results and glee from our side of North London but the board didn't wobble and gave him the time he needed. Exactly what we need to do for Ange. Yes it currently looks a bit one-dimensional and it seems teams have us sussed out, but once it all clicks and everyone in the squad is on board with the new style of play I really hope it truly takes off and brings some silverware. It's rare that teams these days (being run as the businesses they now are) give managers the team they need, it worked hugely for United back in the day with Fergie (by today's standards he would have been sacked before he got going) and it's gratifying to see it worked for Arsenal (as much as it pains me to type that).

It's also even harder if you're not City and can't afford to just keep re-rolling in the transfer market.
Like us, Spurs basically have to get almost all their major signings right which is bloody hard when you can't afford to stick to the obvious superstars at the top of the market.
Whilst we had a few transfer flops (Pablo Mari, Lokonga) the big money signings in Arteta's era have all (Vieira admittedly not looking promising) been somewhere between good and outstanding.
We were also super lucky that the Kroenke's were even willing to give Edu and Arteta 100s of millions after the wastage of the Sanlehi and Emery era. Without that backing we'd be a midtable team scrapping for the Europa league.

It's kind of weird hearing Rodri come out and say players are close to going on strike, because of the number of games that are 'forcing' to play. Sure, if you're any other team than City, that's an issue.

I guess club world cup is relevant for them.
I hope the players do strike, but equally for their part they may have to accept that if they only play 80% of the matches, they may be paid only 80% of their salary.

You are getting paid over a million pound a month and have to work about 15 years of your life (don't even need to do that long if you don't want to). Go fuck yourself for whining about having to work a few more days of the year whilst almost all of the rest of the planet has to fight to keep their head above water.

I was very much world's smallest violin reading that, too. The squad depth they have mean it's their choice to play that many games. Fuck off trying to get quadruples you greedy shits. Leave some scraps for the rest of us and have a day off.

Leave Clem alone, he’s still not come back down to earth from McT’s transfer, he’s buzzing 😂

'Unbelievable we lose to Forest if we can play like this' - thanks for the continuing respect Arne, after pretty much every neutral agreed it was a well-deserved win.

It's an extremely odd thing to say. Welcome to the Premier League, it wont be the last time you get turned over at home by an 'inferior' team.

I'm sure the press are making a big deal out of it like they did with Ange saying he's always won something in his 2nd season.

Great. Odegaard out for a few months. Bloody internationals can do one.

Can you not just buy two or three world class back-ups for every position?
