I do worry that Utd is kind of stuck in this rut of "Well if we could just get this one other signing then everything will be fine".

If we sack another manager we will fix everything!

Again I genuinely think Ugarte will solve a lot of Man Utd's problems. Prime Casemiro would have too.

I don't think he's going to solve anything. We can't rely on 1 player.

He's not going to solve everything but it will inject some quality into the squad. Whether or not he's gonna be able to show that or just magically lose the head like so many of our players do despite their known quality, who can say?

He won the ball back and stopped opposition attacks by any means possible. He played easy passes, either at the back or to Modric and Kroos. Now he seems to try and play risky Hollywood team splitting passes or long balls every time he gets the ball. And they're mostly shite. Whose idea is that?

Osimhen going on loan to Galatasaray feels like another sign the transfer market is collapsing in on itself

It's really interesting. Definite pattern of clubs offering then regretting these £300k/w plus mega contracts within a couple of years.
Hardly surprising given players have to be delivering world class performances every week just to justify them. Very few can manage that for the full term because of course they can't. It's top 10 in the world level consistency the clubs are paying for and there are more than 10 players with these blockbuster contracts.
The players themselves are stuck unless they are willing to take a pay cut, or their current club takes a loss or they are willing to retire to Saudi.
In some ways I think it's actually quite healthy. Overpaying should have consequences, which should discourage further overpaying. The players aren't trapped, they just don't want to give up exorbitant guaranteed income and hand in a transfer request. Their choice.

Don't follow things closely but find it odd that they'd burned bridges so badly that a loan to Turkey was the only option.

Given how well he did last season, surely a bit of contrition on both sides was better than this outcome. Baffling

He wasn't that good last season though was he? I thought he was basically £100k/we good but not £300k/w good. Unfortunately for him I think he showed that he's not the sure thing you'd want for that sort of outlay.
Turkey has come about as a last resort that's better than Saudi, solely because their registration deadline is later. I'm sure in hindsight he'd far rather go somewhere else on same terms but that wasn't on offer before the main European deadline.

Turkey regaining its place as the destination of choice for outcasts and elder statesmen of the game does have a degree of nostalgia about it that I find quite pleasing after the Indian, Chinese and Saudi moneypits.
It was always a treat on a Champions League night to see a line up of radgies and former top tier players you didn’t realise were still playing walk out in an absolute cauldron of an atmosphere.

Despite the result on Sunday, I do hope Ten Hag gets time to see if he can make it work. But I'm no naive enough to think he'll be given all the time in the world if results don't go our way very quickly. Southampton and Palace next, we should win those matches. Not draw, we have to win. At the very least, I'm not calling for Ten Hag out until I hear Southgate has got himself a new job.

I think he will be given time, although I'm not sure that's a good thing. His tactics are clueless and appalling.
If we hire Southgate, that will end my watching United however.

Whether it's worth £300k is another thing. Still slightly weird how it's ended up.

All the players going to enjoy themselves in Turkey, inflation has now dropped to just under 52%! Not that it probably affects footballers directly too much.

I imagine his dip in form in the middle of the year, his injury record and the perception that he needs the team to play to a certain way are all part of it. His salary reduced his options to a handful of clubs and they all decided he wasn't going to give enough value. The HFB also got 15 Serie A goals last year. Which isn't to denigrate Giroud or Series A, but just to point out that output wouldn't necessarily translate to England.

The rumours were that it seems to be generally felt amongst the Prem coaches that he has attitude issues and is a disruptive influence, which is why no one bid, despite the numerous links.

I reckon Toney priced himself out of a domestic move. Brentford were obviously willing to let him go but for someone whose PL record isn’t really *that* outstanding I doubt any of the top clubs thought he was worth paying star striker wages.
Like if he wasn’t English and had the same stats I don’t think he’d have been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea or Spurs like he was

Has Sterling chosen number 30, so when he scores and turns around and points to 30?
