I reckon Toney priced himself out of a domestic move. Brentford were obviously willing to let him go but for someone whose PL record isn’t really *that* outstanding I doubt any of the top clubs thought he was worth paying star striker wages. Like if he wasn’t English and had the same stats I don’t think he’d have been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea or Spurs like he was We should have shipped Richi off and signed him. He probably only aimed for the big wages once the Saudi club came in.

Wonder how Everton fans are feeling after the Leicester PSR appeal victory...

It reinforces how poorly written the rules are. Suspect Chelsea have a similar plan to wrangle their way out.

Reminder that the Premier League are still trying to charge Everton for reassigning an existing loan to use for our new stadium build.

City aren’t even going to get a five figure fine, are they?

At this rate City will fine the Premier league.

Ire should be aimedl at the Premier League and Chelsea, not deflected on to Man City.
I assume the latter have a few more assets they can sell to themselves now should the need arise

The Premier League is the clubs. 'Tyranny of democracy' according to City! They voted against closing the related party loophole (11 votes for and needed 14) so only question remaining was whether the hotel actually was worth £76m.
Not saying I'm fine with the current situation, not by a long shot, but apparently the motion to close that loophole will likely return with better wording to allay concerns of at least three clubs and pass. If that happens it is somewhat progress in the right direction.
I get the sense the Premier League still has enough clubs that are trying but they are no longer capable of building consensus to pass 'sensible' decisions. Now that we have clubs that aren't fundamentally run as a business it's all a bit broken. Truly independent regulation by the state is the least bad option and only way out.

Is there any other billion pound (legal) industry that isn’t regulated?
Especially if people are going to continue to argue that clubs are so important to their cities and communities.

The hyper inflation and numerous cases of corruption, fraud and protectionism within football is a pretty good example at to why thoughtful regulation is required within any competitive market.

Perhaps all clubs should start becoming property investors. Buy up the country, sell them on for profit. You'll see Harry Redknapp on Homes Under The Hammer. Yeaaahh got a good deal in Stoke ere for the Spurs. £300k in the bread bin.

Sorry I know this isn't football but I just thought it was an interesting comparison. I think it's the baseball equivalent of the manager getting booked after a player got sent off. Some similarities to the PL, some similarities to curb your enthusiasm: www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/s/wFuCF1DQjA

Interesting, that all makes a bit more sense! Have definitely seen some players/managers go off like that. Makes Adams/Ellery look very tame mind you!

Odegaard went off injured for Norway tonight. So looks like 17 year old Ethan Nwaneri might need to play Spurs away, Atalanta away and City away next week. Can someone tell me it will all be fine?

Should still have enough in your locker to at least give Spurs a seeing to.

Bugger. Sounds like Calafiori also got injured in an unavoidable random incident. Tough week ahead for sure.

You definitely need an element of luck to win the league. Then when you start losing more ground, then it's fingers pointed at Arteta/Edu for not getting more players in etc etc. ARTETA OUT.

Obviously I want to win the Spurs game but that's not what is worrying me so much in isolation as we can play pragmatic football there. The B team midfield will surely get dominated but as a one off game, I guess we can try and sit back with Jorginho and Partey and look to counter in the gaps that Ange always leaves. Havertz will have to play midfield which is a shame but needs must. If that doesn't work then I dunno, Nwaneri will be the only midfielder not on the pitch so I suppose we have to place unreasonable expectations on him and hope he's another Rooney or Yamal. It's almost as if the squad is too small...
The bigger concern is just the week as a whole and the very real prospect of getting tonked by City. Jorgi and Partey can barely run for 60mins once a week, never mind 90mins three times a week. The timing of these injuries before our two biggest away fixtures of the league season with the extra European away trip on Thursday night (thanks UEFA) just feels incredibly brutal for mid September. Can we not leave the season defining stuff till December at least?

It's like that Chelsea game that completely fucked our season last year. With the possible exception of Rodri, City can just bring in another world class player when they get an injury and don't need to break stride. Even when Haaland and De Bryune are out they seem to just carry on. Its quite depressing.
On the weekend game, I wouldn't feel too disheartened. The best way to play against us is sit back and soak the pressure and wait for us to gift you a goal or two. Just ask Newcastle. The only issue you may have is if we actually manage to score a goal or two and you have to come out and attack.
