Apparently we ended up with a higher xg for the game, shows what a load of arse that statistics is. 1.52 to 1.50 Why does this mean xG is arse? It's just a way of quantifying chance creation for each team in a consistent way that allows benchmarking. Not perfect but I find it mostly tells a story about what happened and what a teams issues are. Didn't watch the game, so this is an interesting test. From that stat I'd conclude that both teams created a similar cumulative quality of chances. Can't know from xG whether it was a few good ones or lots of difficult ones. That is certainly a limitation. Either way, Liverpool presumably scored some low percentage difficult chances or Onana was poor to concede 3 of 1.5 xG. Presumably Man Utd's missed more their opportunities with wasteful finishing or perhaps the Liverpool keeper had an exceptional day to keep a clean sheet?

Nah, Utd were half decent in the first 20 minutes, then their midfield got dominated and started making errors which led to Liverpool goals. They had a few half-decent chances in the second half that required Alisson to make a few routine saves.

A better keeper might have a chance at the second or third goal, but they were good chances. Certainly no chance for the first. I think Liverpool were pissing about a lot after going 3 up. They were dribbling around in our box, not taking shots when a big chance would have been possible.
As well as when they had gone down to 2nd gear it allowed us to make a couple of good chances for Zirkzee, which he wasted badly.
I think after 1st half our Xg was 0.08 or something.

I thought the second and 3rd goals were excellent finishes tbh. Perfectly placed both of them, can't really blame Onana for either. I'm still not sold on him as a keeper though.

Anyone who denies being Harry Potter that often probably is in fact Harry Potter.

History repeating itself. Get thrashed by Liverpool...go on suspect run, which ends in getting thrashed by newly promoted team, leads to sacking of manager in December.

Today is probably the day that we find out if Merino is genuinely only out for 2-3wks or if that was just bullshit downplaying for the final hours of the transfer window. Really hope I was wrong and Arteta was being truthful.
The prospect of having neither Rice or Merino for Spurs away is a bit worrying.

Has Partey picked up that international break injury yet?

Has Partey picked up that international break injury yet? Ah yes, I forgot about that trope. The way that one usually works is that we hear media reports that he was limping after a heavy tackle in the first game on Thursday, but then he starts the second game so we assume it's probably fine. When he comes back, Arteta reveals he has a 'minor issue' but is being assessed and might be available to play at the weekend, and then we don't see him for two months. We've even tried sending Arsenal physios to accompany him to Ghana in an effort to prevent the above. Not sure whether that's happening again? Either way he shouldn't still be at the club in the first place. If he does get injured again I won't be too fussed even though it leaves us extremely short until Rice and Merino are available again.

Players with no contract:
Any takers?
Surprised no one has signed up Depay, must be after obscene wages.

Yeah not really. I'd have considered Navas as a backup keeper before we signed Neto.
Hummels is going to Roma I think.
Probably US or Saudi for some of those.

There are a few in there I’d certainly take, especially as squad players, if they weren’t asking for bonkers wages.
I suppose as well as wages some of the older ones won’t want to accept that they need to drop down to lesser clubs or be squad players after they’ve been stars at previous big clubs.

This is bizarre, not only would Trossard not want to play in Saudi's shitty league but €30m is so fucking undervaluing him it's laughable.

Not least because it's a loan with obligation - no PSR in Saudi league. Unless Trossard genuinely has had a meltdown behind the scenes at the news of Sterling coming in and got his agents looking for suitors. That seems highly unlikely, not least because he got promoted to the starting line up on Saturday. There was an interesting line about Saudi in the Athletic long read covering Arsenal's transfer window. "In April, Edu and assistant sporting director Jason Ayto flew to Saudi Arabia to build relationships with potential buyers. Arsenal were struck by the fact the Pro League’s football infrastructure and facilities are still in relative infancy. They were dubious whether any of their players would be tempted to move there."

Not intended as a dig at the bloke as I'd do the same, but I imagine Salah is eyeing up leveraging his free agent status for a hugely lucrative payday. Yours for £400k a week.
The Man Utd of 2013-2023 would absolutely do it for the status and bragging rights alone.

Swear I read that Toney is on £400k a week in Saudi, I imagine Salah would want to be more in the Ronaldo bracket (millions a week).
