Yeah I always thought at Arsenal they could easily have kept Jerry Quy on as Gunnersaurus.
Anyway it's much like any business. They only treat you as a number/wage bill. If they need to cut money back, it doesn't matter if you worked there for 20-30 years... off you pop.

Do Arsenal not have a mascot on match day any more then?

Yeah. They just employed someone else on a lower salary and worse terms. Depressing. Only after a backlash by fans mind you.

There were always, sadly, going to be redundnacies at United given the extent of previous mismanagement and poorly chosen areas of focus. The extent is disappointing and you'd hope there's not too many lower wage workers impacted. Given they've said 10+m in wages will be saved, some quick maths gives you an average salary of 40k. Obviously some will be lower wage workers but pushing into 40k GBP average would indicate a fair number of, for want of a better phrase, "skilled" roles being impacted too.
It sucks and it doesn't ever look good when they'll likely be splurging 40 - 50million in transfer fees 3 or 4 times over this summer, however, the reality is those are different lines on the balance sheet and the aim is, presumably, to make it so that the playing side of things is actually higher priority which I can't say I disagree with.
It's ruthless and devastating to loads of people (likely many of whom it's a dream to be working with United) but a certain amount of it is probably necessary for refocusing the club in the right direction. Of course it's the wrong people suffering as always.

We were bloated in workforce compared to every other club, it sucks but it was bound to happen. www.reddit.com/r/reddevils/s/rcnzvlIU91At 1,112 as of June 30 last year, United had by far the biggest staff of any club in the Premier League. That number is considerably higher than all of their Big Six rivals, with Liverpool having around 1,005 employees, Chelsea 788, Tottenham 719, Arsenal 649 and Manchester City 520, according to each club’s latest figures.

I think that's the crux of it though. It shouldn't really be bound to happen, given savings are a drop in the ocean relative to the wastage on the playing squad. Surely there was a way to just let it play out through natural churn and voluntary redundancy.
It's that thing again that football clubs are not normal businesses, they are community assets so should be treated a bit differently to your chemicals company.

Even if United’s workforce was bloated City only having a third of that number seems a bit suspect

I suppose you don't need as many commercial employees managing relationships with sponsors when the companies don't exist.

I think our owners literally use actual slave labour so that should help with staffing costs too

If they are so unhappy with the Premier League, maybe they should leave.
I do think there is an argument that City annoying everyone else is helpful. They aren't popular and whilst the current structure is far from perfect, they are only encouraging further determination from their 19 rivals with voting power with this stuff.

Can they not go to La Liga? Sounds like they'd fit in over there.

I was going to say, I don't think he'll be starting for a while. I think he's coming in to be better than Kiwior (who'll go) and compete with Tomiyasu.
With him one flank and Ben White on the other, the master plan is to use their overwhelming handsomeness to stop the opposition in their tracks. The Zoolander defence.

I don't know why De Zerbi was asked about Greenwood, but supposedly he's all for it. Funny how Chelsea just can't shake the image of being a club for the biggest scumbags after all these years.

De Zerbi is at Marseille now. Hopefully he will do some research into Greenwood's background.
Enzo Maresca is the random Italian the Chelsea millions landed on.
