Haven't we outspent the entire league in this transfer window? Arteta must have had almost £200 million to spend on this team by now. We can't throw around the money cheat complaint. We've just put a child with no experience in charge of the club and seem to be waiting to see if he continues shitting himself for a bit longer.

I'm a broken record on the subject. But how Arteta cultivated a reputation as some sort of uncut diamond waiting to be unleashed despite never managing a single game of football beforehand is still one of the biggest mysteries I've ever seen in professional sport. His PR team must be unreal.

Also the eyes. He has gorgeous eyes.
Oh, but yeh. Arsenal have been shite. Didn't understand last season why arteta got so much leeway among commentators, but surely his time will be up soon.

A lot of things aren't Arteta's fault, and I've always advocated giving him more take time considering the mess he inherited. He's also missing half the first team (Gabriel, White, Partey, Odegaard, Auba, Ramsdale?). To some extent, this could partially excuse the calamitous defending as we actually did defend fairly well for much of last year, but I'm not convinced we'd suddenly be looking threatening in attack.
The glaring problems from Emery's time were being too deep, too slow in transition and just a complete lack of effective pressing from the front. Arteta has had more than enough time to coach solutions to these issues, and either isn't or just can't. We're so easy to play against because without the ball we press in ones and twos and leave huge gaps, and with it all we very slowly pass the ball around for a bit, then to Xhaka, then to Tierney who crosses to no one in particular.
I'm just not seeing any evidence of progress regardless of the XI and that's the real worry.

He’s been there longer than Emery now. Still feels like a team in transition.
He reminds me George in that episode of Seinfeld where he says if you just look annoyed all the time everyone will think you’re doing something.

He should adopt the AVB pitchside kneel soon. That'll buy him a couple of extra months.

Post-Wenger we tried the whole "Chuck some cash at some experienced mercenaries" and it didn't work and isn't sustainable. So we need a proper rebuild, and our recruitment this summer, along with the academy players, points to that at long last. But all this leads to is inconsistency, as happens with inexperienced players (and coach). Whether the fans and board stay onside, I have my doubts. We are so far behind the likes of City and Chelsea, I wasn't expecting to get much. September's games will give a better idea of if there's any progress at all. I doubt he'll be in post by November.

Sky have their favourites and right now it's Man City and Chelsea. Tyler was basically saying Kane should go to City when they played last week.

I watched the Spurs game on some Korean stream today (with English commentary) and it was glorious not having Sky seeing the whole thing through a ‘Kane to City’ lens.
Honestly cannot wait for DAZN and Amazon to eat all their lunch.

Arsenal look poor but to be fair, they’re miles away from Chelsea so it’s not that surprising that they looked better than us.
I’m inclined to wait until after the international break before getting too concerned. Get Odegaard, Gabriel, White, Partey and Lacazette back in that team and it’s much better. We don’t need to be beating Chelsea or City because we’re nowhere near them at this point, we need to be consistently beating those around us.
Also who’s available to come in and take over from Arteta and do a better job? There’s no Tuchel waiting in the wings that would see Arsenal as a good opportunity. We could maybe take a risk on someone like Graham Potter but it’s not a sure thing that he would come in a do a significantly better job than Arteta.
That being said… I would be surprised if Arteta turns out to be the managerial superstar that we hoped he would be when he signed. He may well turn out to be decent enough for us for a few more years of the rebuild however.

Thought Chelsea should've had much more from the game. Could've been a drubbing tbh. Arsenal look absolutely shite and I don't think the £150m signings were particularly great acquisitions either. Gunna be a tough season for them again I think.

Yep - he'll have some leeway because of our tough start to the season (plus players missing), but if the likes of Odegaard, ESR and Saka haven't improved our fortunes after ten or so games, then he'll be gone. Problem is, who else is available to take over? Conte perhaps, but that's probably the level of manager that we could only dream of at the moment.

Chelsea didn't need to get out of 2nd gear in the 2nd half. They could have put us to the sword but saved themselves the energy I think.
Obvious replacement is Conte I guess. But he ain't best known for blooding youngsters, and given where we are at, that has to be our focus (plus I doubt he'd come). Tend to agree with jp, but it won't be long after that before the mood turns really sour if things don't improve. I was just glad I took the hit on my ticket (first time in over 10 years) and not had a 1.30am return home!

It was a very very tough game and we should be pleased with 3 points and another clean sheet. Kane came on too which IMO means he’s staying.

I think you are right re Kane as well. We’ve got a decent team so if he is focussed we have a chance of winning something. Wonder if he will start on Thursday.

We looked iffy against Wolves last week but I'm hoping we can get something from West Ham tonight.
Arsenal look all over the place and watching their implosion amuses me greatly. Think we're actually replacing them as a top 6 team, which is mad, really.

Just a complete mess from top to bottom. It's been going on for years when Emery came in, then we started clearing out what Wenger built, to then sack Emery.. in-between we were also shuffling for power for director of football and top scout etc. Then we hire Arteta who we think is a breath of fresh air. Starts well and then pretty much shits the bed. Clubs have been relegated for far less than the shit we've done in the backroom.
