While doing a clear out because of no football, I discovered my old Gerry Anderson dvds and it got me thinking about that lovely BBC 2 evening slot from the 80s - early 00s.
What do we remember of it?
They used to do repeats of old 60s stuff, including Gerry. Captain Scarlet, Joe 90, UFO, along with Randal and Hopkirk, Champions, etc.
Any others I'm missing?

They did a good bit of sci-fi stuff on there too didn't they? Fairly sure I remember watching Star Trek TNG, Farscape and Space Precinct on there before they moved to Sky (or maybe after).
EDIT: And Robot Wars of course! ACTIVATE.

Simpsons was never on BBC 2. By never you mean for 8 years? It was a big success for the channel which is probably why the cost went up a lot and the BBC could no longer justify it so Channel 4 bought up the terrestrial rights. For me 6:00 on BBC2 was pretty much when imported science fiction got broadcast, from the reruns of Star Trek TOS to Farscape and others. Obviously a bit different now but I still tune in to watch House of Games because watching the BBC Six news these days is rather pointless given how quickly things change and they never do anything in detail like C4 does.

Fairly sure TOS was Sunday mornings, possibly even booted over to C4.

What? Have I just forgotten my teenage years? Am I so out of touch? No, it's the forum users who are wrong.

TNG followed by either Waynes World skits or Ren & Stimpy was the big night for me

Pretty sure a few episodes of Aeon Flux made it from it's usual 11ish to that slot, in a kinda "is this really suitable for 6pm way ?" Ed: much like Ren & Stimpy

Ren and Stimpy I think was around that sort of time. I think there is some controversy around the creator now but it was hilariously subversive for a kid of the time.
EDIT: just Google'd the controversy. Hard yikes.

GamesMaster had the C4 6pm slot didn’t it? Or was it 7? Those were good times.
Of course if you had Sky there was also Games World who you would catch every weekday barring Wednesday where it had an excruciating “interactive” episode.

Yeah GamesMaster was on at 6 despite being mostly cock jokes
On BBC2 those spare 15min they had to fill at 6:45 after Star Trek was always full of what would now be considered adult animation.
And wasn’t Family Guy on at tea time when C4 was airing the early episodes?

I remember it going to Channel 4 and them editing the fuck out of it. I just saw the one where Homer becomes the sanitary commissioner, one where lots of characters say "wanker". On the BBC2 edit I remember they changed the word wanker to a grumble, which okay is less funny but at least makes sense. In the version I just saw (sure it was channel 4, might have been sky) they literally just cut the whole bit, but halfway through the scene. So you had the scene, it would get to the wanker line and cut it right before, in two different scenes. It makes no sense!

They showed Buck Rogers in this slot for a while - I used to have nightmares about an episode with some flying pancake-like alien things.

Def II with Normski was in this slot in the late 80s/ early 90s, the start of a good few nights out in my student days.

It was a less adult show back then but even then it got noticeably edited.

The Water Margin twanged my nostalgia boner, also the Monkey tv series around the same time.
I think those two sparked my love of Japan that remains to this day
