I was in our hospital for a procedure and they had it playing on all the screens. Nothing more solemn than retching and gagging as they shove a tube down your nose and throat while she was being laid to rest.

Gotta admit, The journey through Windsor and the 2nd service was a bit more sad. Somehow more final. It kinda hit home. No tears, but definitely feeling like it's the end of an era.

I found it hard not to be struck with pride several times over today. We don't do a great deal right, but christ that was an incredibly moving day. Some of the pictures from the Mall and Windsor will be iconic long after we're gone. I didn't watch much after the service, but agree that we do this sort of pomp and ceremony very well indeed. I can't imagine the pressure of being a pallbearer. Fair fucks to them all. I know they would have rehearsed it countless times over the years, but different when it's for real.

Still think NK did it better. More military and more wailing.

I do wonder if we have set Charles up to fail (or not be massively popular). We have deified The Queen all week and it’s fair to say that, as a country, we absolutely smashed the insanely big state funeral so you couldn’t really blame people for saying ‘this guy fucking sucks’ going forward.

Duke of Norfolk smashed it and he'll smash it again for the coronation.

The BBC have done themselves a lot of good when it comes to any impending decisions around the licence fee, delivering so much coverage at such a high technical quality for a global audience.

Yeah. A couple of Daily Mail articles will quickly be able to kill the good will earned off and get their base frothing again.

Have struggled to find anything to knock one out to all day with the coverage being on every channel. You sir, have changed that. I hope that makes you feel a tiny bit better.

I watched the Marines and thought, those hats would all be perfectly flat all of the time in North Korea. But none of them were condemning their parents and their parents’ parents to the gulag if they fucked up, so fair enough, I guess.

The tricky scenario for Royalists is if Charles dies relatively soon, and we’re expected to go through all the pomp and ceremony and lionising all over again, for someone who isn’t regarded with anywhere near the same reverence. That could get a lot of people questioning whether all this is worth the tourist money, or whatever the other pro-monarchy arguments are. Although admittedly you’d probably also have people keen to see William have a go while he’s (relatively) young.

I always thought that Charles was generally regarded by the British public as something of a buffoon - kind of like Boris Johnson, I suppose, minus the humanising (and misleading!) appearances on Have I Got News for You.
It's perfectly understandable that his stock has risen over the past week-and-a-half - his mum died, and royalists and republicans alike can sympathise with such a bereavement - but the honeymoon period will come to an end before long, whereupon his public perception will return to pretty much where it was before Elizabeth popped her clogs.

I think that's true but by necessity he'll take a step back and probably won't be allowed to say the same sorts of things that got him into bother before. So I imagine that will fade over time. 74 soon, doubt it'll be more than 15 years tops

If anything I've been surprised by the outpouring for Charles. I think all that awkward Diana business has been all but forgotten. People just want normality and without the Queen, are desperate to have that sort of figure at the top, that and the general public feel they're with him in their own grief. His behaviour over the last week with greeting crowds have gone a long way either.

Some channels aren’t showing adverts.
We get a picture of the Queen and a bit of Elgar for five minutes

I think Charles will dial down all the pomp and ceremony going forward and make it a much more streamlined setup. I get the feeling he’s never been much of a fan of it.
It was a sad day, taking the crown off the coffin was one hell of a moment.
my Mum had the commentary feed on and it had its moments where they needed to just be quiet. Thankfully they cut the commentary feed for Westminster. I watched the second part later on the commentary free feed and it was a million times better.

It is quite interesting. They actually ran out of things to say about the queen because there isn’t actually much to say. She’s never really said anything other than pre-prepared speeches. She became queen when nobody knew her, TV had only just started broadcasting again and so on. We really don’t know anything about her. Charles very much has not had that luxury and we know everything about him and every word that ever left his mouth.
I’m sure the papers would have thought Elizabeth was an arsehole if they had 70 years to tear strips off her.

I didn’t watch any of it but I’ve not watched any TV coverage since she died so wasn’t going to start today
What I did find strange though was driving to the golf course the roads were really busy. Even the car park was rammed and we got the last space in the main car park, it’s not usually that busy on a Saturday
Odd really as golfers are gammony old fucks so I thought they’d have lapped it up. Maybe other courses in the area closed out of “respect”
