Were they messages of condolence for you being in the Co-op? Least they could do. It did smell like someone had died in there...too soon?

So why is the cricket still going ahead but not the football? The cricket had started before she croaked. There was bugger all play on Thursday due to the rain, but abandoning a match that had already started would have caused all sorts of hassle, both financially and administratively

It can trend on twitter all it likes, Charles' popularity is pretty much at its highest point and I can only see it increasing now he has the crown.

People trying to make a big deal out of him asking a member of staff to move some stuff from the table so he could sign some bits. I did notice that, he could nt be arsed to move the silver ink pots about six inches so he made a wavy hand gesture to get one of his subservants to do it for him. The hand gesture would have took more effort than doing it himself.

It was a fucking tiny table in fairness. Really didn't look like there was enough room for anything apart from the comically large bits of paper.

I don’t think he’ll be the diplomat that his mother was. It will be interesting to see how the dynamic shifts with his siblings, now the power has shifted from a parent to a brother. The talk of taking Saudi millions has gone quiet for now, but I wonder what the Press will do when they call in their debt with King Charles III?
I think the monarchy are in for a rough ride and he’s not the man to steer them through it.

Regarding the table gesture, it's not so much that he requested it to be moved, it's the utterly graceless way in which he did so.
So fuck the king.

The Queen will have been no different. They have literally been waited on hand and foot their entire lives and this really shouldn't come as a shock to anyone.

Yes, it's why they all need to get in the fucking bin.
It's just interesting when the mask slips and the intrinsic contempt they have for the little folk seeps out.

Fortunately/Unfortunately (delete as applicable) you are in the minority there and it's not happening.

I'm not even sure what the majority is. I think the majority don't really care to much either way, then there's the spineless forelock tuggers. I hope republics outnumber then at least, otherwise this country is even more backwards than I feared.
(To be fair, I guess contempt for the British people is something I share with Charlie. But for very different reasons)

Most recent yougov polling
Six in 10 Britons (62%) think Britain should continue to have a monarchy in the future, with only 22% saying the country should move to having an elected head of state instead.
More than eight in 10 (84%) Conservative voters and 77% of Britons aged 65 and older say the monarchy should continue, while just 9% and 13% respectively say we should have an elected head of state instead. Conversely, Labour voters are 48% in favour of a monarchy and 37% in favour of a head of state, and 18 to 24-year-olds are even more split: 33% favour a monarchy and 31% a head of state.

Read a report that a tribute to the Queen was booed and met with chants of USA at a UFC event…
To which I respond with “no fucking shit! A bunch of the most nationalistic MAGA Qanon following Trump loving America First rednecks didn’t respond well to a royalist tribute?”Why would you even do it? It’s like airing asking Anfield to sing happy birthday to Sir Alex Ferguson. Sometimes you just have to know your audience.

@frog - curious to see if those numbers start to slide after we've finished however many days of forced sadness we're supposed to endure. I can see popularity starting to slide now that Charles is head honcho, although probably still not enough... I'll sure as shit be signing the inevitable petitions that pop up in a week or so.

I don't think you're ever going to escape the monarchy. The inertia is just too strong.

Yeah, this is my thinking. The Queen has died, it's a massive distraction from the shit that is going to engulf the country. Once all the mourning has gone and people are back in reality we'll see what the real consensus is.
