As a mark of respect you should just refuse to pay your Sky bill.

Also have to respect her for not being a cunt pretty much her entire life. All the others managed to fuck theirs up in a much shorter space of time, and they weren't even in charge. So yeah RIP and all that. "She managed to not be a total cunt" was the working title of the BBC's obituary, but they went with something else in the end.

My work just sent this email....
*** Support following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II ***
It is difficult to separate the loss of such a loved and respected public figure from other sad times in our lives. You may be caring for loved ones who are frail and vulnerable, or you may have experienced a significant loss in recent times.
Many of us will spend time with colleagues, friends and loved ones and will support each other in the days ahead. Some of us, however, may find that we need other help.
Please do speak to your line manager if you need any support or you can call the Employee Assistance Programme; Validium – our free, confidential helpline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their counsellors are available to provide support, even if all that is needed is a single call to connect with someone talk about how this news has upset you or made you think of someone you have loved and lost. Their free phone number is....

A round at the local (especially if it's called the Queen's Head) for all employees at the company's expense?

Was just reminded by my Mum that my second cousin was given a corgi from the Queen. No idea what happened to that dog when she passed away(my relation, not the queen).

They probably had it stuffed.
The dog that is, not your relative and yet to see about the Queen.

One upside I hadn't considered till now. I actually think corgis are pretty cool, but haven't got one in case someone mistook me for the Queen.
I can get one now without worrying about that.

I certainly thought about my late Dad yesterday and how he would be reacting to all that is going on (wasn't much for the royals, although he thought they contributed more than they took, but I suspect he would enjoy witnessing the circus and watching the various mechanism kicking in). Seems reasonable to consider staff that might struggle when surrounded by grief 24/7, even if it is slightly confected.

I wasn't going to mention this, but this is how it's making me feel a little bit regarding my late Mum, I have to admit that. I know workplaces have a duty of care etc and it has to be over the top to cover everyone's ranges of emotions etc, but it is valid in some cases.

The news is hideous. There's clearly nothing to report except "Woman dead" the crowds of milling old folks outside the palace has been referred to as extraordinary scenes and they interviewed a woman who kissed Charles hand. Basically they'll speak to anyone to fill the endless news loop.
Fuck the... long... pauses... between... words... as well.
It's just tedious and morbid.

It's definitely true that such events can trigger memories. Yesterday I certainly thought about missing saying goodbye to my old man by about 20 minutes. It sounds wanky to send something like that but is important I think.

The woman who kissed Charles’ hand is a part of history.
Funny how no one gives a crap about Covid anymore. Charles should have just fist bumped everyone.

Also tho, we're only "surrounded by grief 24/7" because people are making a thing about it. So it's a self fulfilling process.

Well, possibly. The media certainly are drumming huge amounts of that up though, rather inevitably.
I would expect that employee support mentioned in that email wasn't specifically organised because of this event and it is always available. Also, I don't think it is a terrible thing for a company to say to staff that if they need a bit of help it's there for them. Certainly preferable to someone who is struggling for whatever reason to be told to just get on with it.
