I'm only 10% down overall on crypto, these diamond hands aren't being shaken. Hodling to the moon once the paper hands are gone etc.

I been saying for years steer clear of crypto. All the real money has already been made. I do kinda wish I had listened to my investment expert friend back in 2010 and bought £100 of BTC. But there's no point in it now and everyone should get out while the gettings good.
Mining is a waste of time as well, unless you happen to own a factory full of machines and power that you somehow don't pay for.

My SIPP and ISA is not *too* shabby at 9% annualised return over the last few years and I generally try to avoid fucking about with them too much. Time in the market and not timing the market, innit?

At least after The Great Reset (should be any day now) we'll all be on a level playing field.

How much would that £100 be worth now? if you had sold at the peak, $85m. (BTC started at $0.08 in 2010 so a hundred bucks would have been 1250, selling 1250 at $68k is 85 mill)

Users were talking about mining bitcoin on eurogamer around that time so we probably have a few crypto oligarchs lurking here. I tried giving it a go back then but gave up when it seemed like hassle /o\

I work with a security researcher who bought £200 worth in the early 2010s for research and then sold it when he was done.
He’s quite up beat about though as he knows he absolutely wouldn’t have ever kept it through peak value

I bought quite a lot of it when it was around £150, also for "research"

And I tell you what, it was fucking high quality "research"

hi Spin o/
- Crypto market crashed along with the stock market at the onset of the covid pandemic as everything shut down.
- Part of many government's response to this, especially the US government's, was to inject trillions of dollars in to the stock market and lower interest rates making markets more attractive.
- Shady stablecoin issuers' response to this was to print billions of new unbacked stablecoins and buy crypto with it to support the price of these scam coins.
- Stock markets shot up and whales bought and inflated the price of crypto further with their profits. Shitcoin and shitstock holders rejoiced but never took any profits.
- Late last year governments around the world, especially the US government, started to taper off their support of the markets and raise interest rates to try and fight off inflation and cool down the crazy housing markets.
- Without support, and rising interest rates making other assets more attractive than stocks and crypto for whales to park their money, the markets are starting to crash.
- The crashing is starting to expose the crypto projects that rely on ever increasing prices and the trust of delusional holders to function.
- As these projects and stablecoins fail it causes more panic and more selling and more volatile price swings and more diamond handed holders to post on Reddit that they've lost everything.
Hope that helps

Because I finally got around to buying some, and it's been all downhill from there. What did you buy? Just regular old bitcoin. Not a crazy amount.
Unfortunately, I had to jump through a whole bunch of hoops to get the id i needed to be able to open the account, which ended up taking about 3 months.
If i'd actually been able to buy them 3 months earlier it would have been a much better deal, but I basically got the account approved at the exact moment bitcoin peaked.
So you can all thank me for the crash. Jinxed it!
Actually, investing is a bit of a pain because I can't open any new accounts in the UK because I'm non-resident.
I can now finally open ones in Japan, but there's the language issue, plus most of my savings are in the UK. Pain in the butt.
In another case of bad timing, I spent ages trying to find a decent UK investment option that I could access, finally found one and planned to open it that weekend, and that's when the whole Reddit/AMC investing thing kicked off and the one service that accepted non-residents 'paused' accepting new non-resident accounts and put me on a waitlist.. which I've now been on for 16 months.
Jinxed it again!

To be fair to Madonna, if ever I was going to buy an NFT, it would be one of a nude, CGI Lolo Ferrari shooting a tree out of her fanny.
They knock those monkey pictures into a cocked hat.

While most shitcoins would have been a disaster, with Bitcoin there's a good chance It'll reach ATHs again. Lesson I hopefully learn is to not be afraid to take profit and wait till future dips to buy in again if wanted.
