So,,, I've never played a diablo game, where do I start? Depends on your line of thinking. Could start with the first and enjoy the evolution/QoL improvements as the series progresses. If the games feel old and off putting, just skip to 3. Or get in on the D2 HD hype (?) and just play that. D3 is the most accessible. In D1/2 your character/skill choices are more permanent (you can respec at some point) but in D3 all the skills are just unlocked as your character levels up and are available to mix and match on the fly as much as you like
I'd say if you prefer story/atmosphere, go for either D1 or D2. Purely for gameplay, probably D3
edit: no idea if you can respec in the first game

Don't think Diablo even had those kind of systems to begin with, so nothing to reset.
D1 would be pretty painful to go back to at this point tbh, it was clunky at the time.

In the first game you only had your stats to think about, so there wasn't much need to respec.
Personally I loved the first game. It felt more pure, and was utterly terrifying.

Playing D2 resurrected reminded me how slick D3 is these days. D2 is much more grindy and careful experience. Darker and more traditional. I welcome the QoL changes in D3.
I will play resurrected though. There something about it that appeals.

So yeah, I'm going to play it too. I spent way more hours on D3 than the other two combined (Witch Doctor ftw), but I'll still give this a go.
What's the summoner class again? Druid?

Necromancer is the chap you want for summons. From what I remember ( not too much ) you could have a decent sized skelington horde and I'm kind of tempted to do the same.
WD was easily my favourite in D3 so necro will probably be my first choice too.

I know it's not cross platform unfortunately.
I've gone for ps4/5 for the big telly + sofa option this time round.
I'm starting to get a bit stupidly excited for it - put a lot of hours into the originals. In fact, I have a rogue character going at the moment in D1 too.

I wasn't going to pick this up but I've just punted Deathloop as I've done all I want to in it for now and I am sorely tempted. It's mainly the nostalgia hit as opposed to the game itself I think I'm seeking however so not sure if I should as my previous concerns about it holding up after Diablo 3 still ring true in my head.

Going to get this after I'm back from hols, otherwise I'll just end up playing it the next few days, and not do anything sensible I'm meant to do. Probably go assassin again, really not the best character at anything but fun to play: although, no doubt I'll cave in and go easy mode frozen orb sorc or something at a later date.

I probably should've tried the beta of this when I had a chance. Tried playing D2 a couple of years ago as for whatever reason I never played it back in the day (absolutely no idea why given how much I loved D1!), but just couldn't get on with how clunky it felt coming directly from D3.
I'll still probably cave and get it at some point, even though I know it's the same clunky game with a fresh lick of paint...

Saying that, I always preferred the look of D1 & D2 over D3. The sprites innit, and it would sit quite nicely beside Quake on my PS5 to remind me of the glory days before I got old and bald.

There's just something about the first 2. Nice and dark, compared to D3.
