I mean, I was absolutely hooked at launch, but the S1 came too early for me personally, as I was still working on my eternal realm character. After finishing the campaign and grinding out the renown, I basically got to c. level 70 with full ancestral gear and pretty much the ideal aspect set up for my build, so enthusiasm to keep going to 100 quickly evaporated, as all I was really doing was canning NMDs for the occasional negligible stat upgrade.
I really like the world and aesthetic, and the atmosphere is top-notch. But I just don't really feel like there's enough to drag me away from other games atm. And there is absolutely no fucking chance I'm ever doing any renown grinding/side quests again. That needs completely binned for alt characters (which I think they are taking steps towards already?).

All interest in this seems to have dropped off a cliff. Even some of the most ardent streamers have bailed and moved onto PoE or Last Epoch.
I don't this season is going to change anything up significantly enough to fix things. Based on comments in Devtalks I think a lot of the season stuff was already set in the pipeline. S3 is probably where things will start to change as it's all gone to shit and I can imagine a few meetings have happened

I gave up a third of the way into the season. It took fucking ages to move up a level and I realised I just couldn't be fucked.

Made it to about level 85 in S1. Couldn’t get an upgrade on the uniques that were part of my build and just gave up. Endless NM grinding for nothing. I have no desire to go back now. It was good but it’s done and dusted now.

Yeah, I haven’t gone back to it either. Just feels such a slog to level up and the busywork quests are dull.

I was just getting fed up of finding vulnerable damage items. There was just no fun happening - it fast turned into just a solid grind, which I wouldn't mind so much if there was actually something to grind *for*

I didn’t even cash in the season pass I got with my edition, in spite of some of the most hostile UI this side of “if you keep jamming on the A button to skip the company logo videos you’ll immediately hit the quit button on the login screen”. I might play again with the new season but I think the structure of the game once you’re through the campaign (which I thought in general was excellent, but felt like I had to rush through to get ready for the season) isn’t very good. The game, for me, doesn’t really gain anything from the MMO-lite overworld except an even more stringent always-online requirement and a bunch of stuttering. The whole map/shrines thing felt like some busywork added for the hardcore 12 hour a day crowd except that in the end I felt forced into that, again due to the upcoming season, burning myself out and those players would have just chewed through that too, ultimately leaving nobody satisfied. I thought I’d play it a bunch on the Deck but the launcher shenanigans are just enough of a pain that I can’t be bothered and obviously it doesn’t keep itself updated.
Just a bunch of things that while they’re not huge on their own added up. I don’t regret buying it as I’ve had more than enough entertainment out of it but I think they’ve done a bad job of making a “forever game” type thing and that’s ended up compromising the experience.

I'm invested in FO4 at the moment with Cyberpunk queued up for a play straight after. I won't be going back for a while.
Iy won't hurt them to realise they fucked it and put a load of work in to unfuck it!

Shitty mobs take an age to kill. They’ve made it in such a way that you never feel powerful and it’s that which is the dealbreaker for me. Play something like Grim Dawn and it’s such a more rewarding experience.

Interestingly, as a filthy casual, I'm still enjoying it. I binned off the seasonal character because I think I just wasn't gelling with it, and as others have said it was faaaaar too close to the launch. It's a shame, because I quite enjoyed parts of it but got to around level 30 and noped out.
Went back in these past few weeks for a little bit here, a little bit there, and it's scratching the Diablo itch for me.

Yes! grim dawn still feels great today and they recently revealed another expansion.
With D4, I feel like that massive open world they spent a large chunk of Dev time on is under utilised and a waste at present. There is no reason to venture out into it at all once you have all the waypoints or doing NDs. The tech behind it would be great for a top down RPG or fallout style setting though.

I always felt Grim Dawn felt a bit slow. I did play it just after Early Access ended though so maybe I should give it another bash. Just felt like it took too long to get interesting skills, then I hit a brick wall and had to unlearn them to stack points in maybe three different moves.

It's a real shame as the world is fucking amazing, and I love the dark tone of this one. I obviously enjoyed it enough to finish it but it was the seasonal character when the cracks began to show. I'm not saying I'll never go back to it. There's still a great game in there somewhere. Just one you've got to have the patience for.

Doubt D4 will hook me back with S2 promises, but OTOH it did make me give POE and Last Epoch a serious try. So GJ ActiBlizz.

D4 S2 live as of 50 mins ago, am sure there are several people rushing to play it.
edit: hold up, 'several hour' delay

Yeah, I tried at about half 6 and was confused when I didn’t have the option to select seasonal play.

Just logged in to quickly check how the mount changes felt. Seemed much better: responsive, more agile etc. Will look at the S2 stuff later, but still can't see me buying any form of BP for this atm ...

Rolled a seasonal character despite myself. Got bored after thirty mins and went back to LotF. Oh well.

I've got a feeling that Last Epoch is going to come in and steal Diablo's lunch.
It's doing so much right. Also their sorc 'invoker' class seems to be so well thought out. Ability to combine different element apells to get different spells altogether seems quite cool.

I picked up D4 yesterday - while I'm aware of the criticisms, my usual playstyle is running different hardcore chars through the campaign, and not really getting involved with the endgame, so hoping that it's fit for purpose in that way. Coming from Last Epoch I am really surprised at how dated it looks and feels (it's my first Diablo). Nothing I can put my finger on straight away, but just a general sluggishness and lack of slickness and MMO-asset looking and ancient-looking UI. But hoping the gameplay is decent

See despite my reservations with D4, one thing I could never levy at it was that it looks or feels dated. Last Epoch must look something else as I think D4 looks stunning most of the time.

Yeah, I had lots of issues with it but the visuals were definitely not among them. I guess I was mainly comparing to D3 though, so it'd obviously feel like a huge leap in quality. Audio is bloody perfect too with headphones on.

I might elaborate further as I figure it out. It feels like I'm playing something from 2010. No doubt some of it is the early-ARPG lack of oomph while you put together some skills, which is expected, but I'll see.

Last Epoch is great, very interesting loot systems in place. It's basically the opposite of D4, weak campaign, but everything else great. Endgame is also pretty amazing.
Too bad they went steam-exclusive. There is always a catch.
