I was in the private test for Skull and Bones, and honestly it wasn’t that bad, as far as live access games go. Could you see why it's taken so long to actually become something that resembles an actual playable game?

My guess is either internal politics or problems working out how to maintain the end game.

Anecdotally I have a friend working for a small studio within a very large games company who was leading on a game that was practically finished. Unannounced but most of the campaign was done, he was really looking forward to having people play it as he thought it was a true return to form from their earlier games.
And the bigger company just shut the whole thing down (including the studio) a couple of months back as they projected it wouldn't make enough money. Not that it wouldn't make money, but not enough. So it's possible that company's are cutting back in swathes right now and focusing only on the sure fire hits.

Yeah I just read that they cancelled 3 unannounced projects in order to save costs because they were expecting Skull and Bones, Avatar and Assassin's Creed Mirage to release last year.

Ubisoft have at least been useful in warning publishers that doing deals with guarantees with governments to get funding is probably not a good idea.

You'd think it would be pretty easy to just take the pirate stuff of AC4 and flesh it out a bit more to make a proper game.

The title refers to what will be left of all of us by the time this releases, obviously

I bet they absolutely rue the day they took that investment fund from the Singapore government.

Should just release it and take the hit on it at this point.

What Frog says. Why keep throwing good money after bad?
It's not as though anyone expects anything other than a train wreck at this point anyway!

The funniest part will be when it releases and it's actually the best game of its kind ever made, and everyone eats their words and starts playing it nonstop

Everyone obviously.

I'm amazed that they have the balls to sell this as a boxed product when it has F2P written all over it.

Haha, as if it'll ever come out. I could have the disc in front of me and I wouldn't believe you.

I’ve never played a game with sailing and ship based combat that I actually thought I’d pay for just that part spread over x hours of game. Slow moving craft that take 5 minutes to turn around doesn’t seem like a lot of fun.

What the hell happened to Ubisoft?
Once upon a time, they at least inspired and had the courage to run with original ideas.
Even on basic game mechanics, they aren't within a million miles of the likes of Sea of Thieves, so why nobody pulled the plug on this year's ago is ridiculous.
It's still effectively the ship combat from Assassin's Creed Black Flag released a decade ago. If they released this as "DLC" back then it would have maybe been a few weekends worth of fun.. As a full price game 10 years after the event, mental.

I think they'd have canned it years ago if they could, but Singapore won't let them.

I won't believe this has ever released until I see it having stock dumped by retailers for a tenner and it's on GP/PS+ as a last ditch effort to get some money out of it.

I can't be bothered to type anything different so I'll cut and paste what I posted on a friend's Discord. I love how the Skull and Bones beta limits you to six hours, that sounds like a threat. It's as good as you'd think a game based on a 10 year old Assassin's Creed that has been repeatedly delayed over and over again and is only being released because Ubisoft signed a contract with Singapore. Did the tutorial bit, watched a very stuttery cinematic to get to the big port and decided I'd rather watch HIGNFY on my TV than on my PC while I played. In summary, if it's on PS+ in 6 months I'm still doubtful I'd play it.
edit: thought I'd give it some more time, just had the cutscene with the pirate leader at Saint Anne and my controls don't work, lovely. Fuck's sake it required me to use the touchpad but didn't make it clear...
edit 2: 75 minutes played now and it does improve once you get a reasonable boat but I'm really not sure how it'll sustain things. Some of the design is awful, the resource harvesting is like some mobile game rather than you being a pirate. The tearing in Sainte Anne as you move about is awful and that's in performance mode on a PS5, I dread to think what it's like on a Series S.
Anyone buying this at launch is brave.
