I may not be bothered about use-by's but you can't accuse old fred of skimping on quality.
Unless it's for the sprogs of course, they can eat any old shite.

It's the boy's (pretend) birthday dinner tonight in advance of his actual birthday on Saturday (when he'll be with his mum). He has requested a smash burger meal - so I'm doing burger, tater tots, beans and possibly some lemonade if I get time.
The burger is 80% lean beef, so it'll be nice and fatty. I've never made tater tots before but I thought it'd be more fun than fries.

Boil whole potatoes in salted water until slightly tender (not mashable), let them cool, grate them, mix them with a bit of flour, shape them into tots, deep fry them. Vaguely similar to hash browns, really.

HMU with your best tagine recipes I bought a small charcoal bucket thing to cook these on after seeing a place in Morocco doing it on a BBC show. It was a petrol station that did these on the side, 5 stars. Should probably add this to my "daft lockdown ideas" list.

Made lamb tagine. The (halal) butcher only had diced lamb with bone in, so the sauce is incredibly rich but it will be difficult to eat when I serve it tomorrow.
Marinated the lamb in cayenne pepper, coriander, cinnamon, paprika, tumeric, ginger, salt, pepper and red wine vinegar.
After browning it in the pan, in went onions, chillies, red peppers, garlic and ginger paste, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and a cinnamon stick; apricots and raisins soaked in wine; tomato paste, chopped tomatoes and lamb stock. Braised it in a low oven for three hours.
It's chilling in the fridge now, ready for tomorrow, when I will add chickpeas, honey, parsley and coriander.
It will be served with cous cous with preserved lemons and maybe some flatbread, if me bird comes here.

I got a new cast iron pot, which I seasoned four times over the course of the day. Seemed to do the job!

We had spaghetti and meatballs.
I massively underseasoned the meatballs because I am a massive fraud.

Had an afternoon tea earlier as a delayed part of the missus' birthday, then did some indoor cycling.
Currently hoovering up leftovers from the fridge, so an odd mix of a left over hot dog, onions &bun and some porridge.
Followed by 3x dark chocolate orange segments (for Dougs π) and a coffee with a splash of milk.

One pot chicken and rice... Saw this site recommended elsewhere and thought I'd give it a try a couple of weeks ago. It instantly earned a place in my rotation. www.budgetbytes.com/one-pot-chicken-and-rice/Added some mushrooms too this time.

Homecooks Assemble!
I need to purchase a new range cooker (100cm width) this year. I will be replacing the gas/gas range that came with the house. I would like to get an electric oven this time, and was assuming I wanted a gas hob still. But... do I? If you were buying into a 2-3k range cooker, would you be looking at induction in terms of energy costs and convenience?

I can't decide what to have tonight. I've got some 'normal' things in, but I'm reallllllllly craving a fry up. Might do that instead.

Paprika chicken.
So, chicken stir fried in olive oil, salt, pepper, hot paprika and butter.
The following, roasted in olive oil, salt, pepper and rosemary: sweet potatoes, aubergine, butternut squash (those three had honey too), spring onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and red pepper.
