Don't get me wrong, I like stodge. It's just a lot of Chippy's are really shit. Or the good ones start out amazing and slowly stop caring as much.

Curry sauce with chips is fine.
A post-pub meal in my youth would be a tray of 1/2 chips, 1/2 fried rice, covered in curry sauce.
However, that’s Chinese takeaway food, fish and chips is a different world, curry sauce has nothing to do with fish.
You will notice, your honour , that the Chinese Restaurant menu consists of chicken in curry sauce, beef, vegetable, orawn and pork.
Not battered fish, nor chippie chips, nor battered savs.
It’s like putting carbonara sauce on your sushi, stop it.

To be half-serious for a moment, I imagine the difference in opinion is due to the fact that in Scotland, chippies are mostly run by Scots-Italians whereas at least in some parts of England (no idea on rUK) are ran by Chinese-English. That's why you Southerners have this perverted practise with fish and chips.
God, I'd love a fish supper.

Can't say I've ever noticed a proper chippy that's run by Chinese-English. Seems to be a bit of a wild assumption. It's just the norm, nothing to do with who's running the place.

I grew up with half and half with curry sauce from the Chinese too as the standard post pub snack. I miss those days of being a skinny fuck and yet having that most night after a load of pints.
Since moving back up north last year I’ve started the fish and chips and curry sauce and it’s great. I got suckered in as the English chippies now do loads of different ones - Irish, English, Chinese and another that I forget.
