Oh, great and powerful Hive Mind. Opine me this. Can one wear an Ascot  To a "formal" wedding - IF (and this bit is important) one is NOT in the wedding party (ie, not a groomsman, best man, page etc)? What say you? |

going to vote "no" as it strikes me it's the boy version of "don't upstage the bride", and my inbuilt antipathy to anything that trys to be a bit posh
but - kinda up to the folks getting married how they want their wedding to look, so I guess check?

I agree with minimatt in terms of checking with the bride and groom. Just to be on the safe side, y'know? Then, if they were okay with it, I'd go right ahead... ... But make it an orange one. Go for the full Fred Jones look. (Okay, maybe not that last part.) |

As ever, Danno makes a good point.
If the wedding is going to be held in this preposterous heat, go for a tuxedo T-shirt and a pair of Tobias Fünke-eque cutoff jeans - the T-shirt isn't quite as classy as an ascot, but it's in the same ballpark, while the cutoffs are both elegant and functional.

Looks a bit casual & like wanker attire. It's a wedding ffs, toe the line. Dress up, not down for a wedding.
So saying, i basically wear a skirt to a wedding, a bit like goat apocalypse, but more manly & tartan-y. 😜

Yeah, just check you aren’t clashing with the wedding party outfits if you’re worried. It’s a wedding, people dress up for it. If you upstage anyone by wearing an ascot, they are doing it wrong.

I cannot possibly reply to all individually, so...
I've spent more than half my life dressing up ALL the time. If the dress code were Morning Dress or #2 Service, I would.
I won't get hot (although I'm acclimatised to that sort of thing anyway, this will be November in Bury St. Edmunds).
I can tie a tie.
I do not own a Wallace and Grommit tie.
But I am now considering one.
I almost put chaps as a poll option.
I will of course speak to the bride and groom, I just wanted the voices in my phone to call me names.
