First iteration and all that, they have to start somewhere. I think people just don't care as much as they did in the 90s. Full sized headphones, white airpods, people wouldn't have worn them in the 90s. The guy playing mumble rap full blast on the train, he'd probably wear one of these.

There's plenty of ways to look like a rich prick, to be fair, like driving a Lamborghini in a city in the middle of a cost of living crisis. But driving a Lamborghini doesn't generally put you within punching distance.

When (if) the tech is more widespread, sure, the stigma will be lessened. But right now it's the most conspicuous of consumptions.

What will be unforgivable is those that choose to use the built in headphones in public - they are speakers pointed roughly at your ears, so in public you get to hear whatever they are doing.
