Its kind of a shame that the great exodus didn't happen. To just set up exactly the same business and steal all the users would have been genuinely hilarious.
I mean, you look at it and you realise all he paid for was the name and the user base, both of which he has burned to the ground.

Can't help but think some of that was because BlueSky wasn't scalable. Had it been fully open to new regs, it would have caught on. The invite thing is crap. There's no immediacy.

Bunch of codes, so even some lurkers can grab them, I tried giving them away on Twitter but I applied ROT13 to it as a little test, no one grabbed them.
Think the number of invite codes tops out at 5 as it never went past that.

There's nothing brazen about Bluesky imitating pre-Musk Twitter, that's acknowledged, intended, and afaik legally watertight.
What's it like? It's pretty good. People who say it's quiet or even empty obviously aren't following many people, or the right people. Whereas I've drifted away from Mastodon a little, despite having over 4,000 followers there, is because it can indeed be a bit dry and a bit earnest. Bluesky has a much funner vibe. It just lacks gif and video support.
I am genuinely disappointed that so many people have stayed at the Nazi bar. I burned my bridges and walked away from 27,000 followers but I don't regret that. I don't know why anyone would want to support Musk or pander to his ego, and that's what using Xitter is.

Three more codes, my spares topped right back up when the previous 3 got used.

There's nothing brazen about Bluesky imitating pre-Musk Twitter, that's acknowledged, intended, and afaik legally watertight. Isn't that the definition of Brazen? I am genuinely disappointed that so many people have stayed at the Nazi bar. I burned my bridges and walked away from 27,000 followers but I don't regret that. I don't know why anyone would want to support Musk or pander to his ego, and that's what using Xitter is. A lot of people underestimated inertia, which is weird as its been happening since the dawn of the internet/time. It takes a lot to force someone to change, even if all they do is complain about the experience they are having. There was also an assumption that 100% of people sacking off twitter would just use a twitter clone which doesn't really account for the user experience. People may have fucked off Nazi Twitter but you're also never going to get those glory days back of Snoop Dogg asking what pizza he should order or Cher tweeting about the Wu-Tang Clan again, so what's the point in signing up anywhere? The tweeting experience people loved is done. Its now just corporate accounts, bots or terrible political takes and nobody is creating a blue sky account for that. Especially if you consume passively like 99% of people do. Like your 27k followers. 26.9k probably never posted anything. None of them are going to follow you over to bluesky if the rest of their follow list is still on twitter.

Isn't that the definition of Brazen? Well I take 'brazen' to mean doing something you shouldn't be doing, and there's nothing naughty or dodgy about what Bluesky is doing, it was set up originally *by Twitter* precisely in order to do what it's doing. The tweeting experience people loved is done. Its now just corporate accounts, bots or terrible political takes and nobody is creating a blue sky account for that. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you but my point is that the Bluesky experience is pretty much exactly that old tweeting experience, albeit without the celebrities which is a plus, obviously.

btw sharing bluesky invites in posts on the open internet can lead to bots hoovering them, sharing them by private message might be safer in that regard

I'd imagine there's a lot more bot harvesting of codes from accounts they've already got. Being able to see who has used them is also rather handy.

Like I say, for me who isn't a tweeter and just a consumer it just isn't and that lack of 'they are just like me' celebrity brain dumping is a detriment. Ive had an account since 09/10, I think and its a wildly different landscape and experience. If twitter folded tomorrow I doubt I would spend anywhere near the same time browsing a clone because the interesting accounts are gone. Technologically, yeah, bluesky is the same experience as old twitter but content wise, its absolutely nothing like it.

Also the absolute cognitive dissonance between those talking about the government trying to put microchips in you through 5G and the COVID vaccine while at the same time championing an absolute narcissistic control freak putting actual chips into people's brain is making my head spin.

I can't get the image out of my head, of that episode of Sealab 2021 where Stormy, believing himself to be far more intelligent than he actually was, decided to do experimental brain surgery on a test monkey, and for all intents and purposes had just sawed the thing's skull open, appeared to have stuck a pair of batteries directly into the grey matter and just left the skull open, job done.

I've noticed the same thing. There is a definite overlap between conspiracy types and Musk simps. Even if it wasn't nonsense, I'd trust a Bill Gates chip marginally more over Musk's.

Musk's chip is about as appealing as a Dahmer trepanation.

So the chips implanted, OK....what does it actually do tho? I imagine the pitch is that theyll be like a runner in Cyberpunk but given the state of twitter theyll most likely be force fed memes that Elon has a team of social media chimps writes, crypto ads and porn displaying in front of them?

Maybe the implant will give the user the ability to store 80 gigabytes of memory. Potentially more for short periods of time.
