I figure if anything is serious enough and close enough to have a direct impact I'll hear about it sooner rather than later. And I normally do.
Anything else can just wait.

They have print mags in the library itself, but no e-book type things. Japanese love a print magazine don’t they, there’s one for everything you can imagine. I was even the cover star of one a few years ago with a 5 page write up of my work

I'm glad a lot of people don't want to know about things happening in the world as it happens.
That's not me so I'll continue to use Twitter until hopefully everyone I follow moves on.
A lot of journalists, sports accounts and legal Twitter are incredibly reluctant to go elsewhere, fuck knows why, their opinions aren't published anywhere else so there's that too.
Obviously sensible law professionals also use Bluesky and I'm still wondering why some follow me back...

Like I said, I've never used it and still feel relatively well informed. ...unless space lizards landed five minutes ago.

Dunno what it's like where you are, but I have access to lots of magazine print editions online via my local library and the PressReader app, including The Week (and loads of others The Economist, Newsweek, and er.... EDGE and New Scientist via Libby). All for free. It's so amazing I genuinely struggle to believe it's a thing Unfortunately, such things don't really exist here. Far too high-tech.
They have print mags in the library itself, but no e-book type things.
Which was particularly ironic for about the last 6 years since Rakuten bought Overdrive. But I think they sold it off recently.
I really wish I still had my UK library card!
I use Libby a lot as our local libraries use them (a pleasant recent development), but I'm fairly sure I blagged a library card for the next county over, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's ways to get one from overseas.

You can use Twitter and also not spend every waking moment going on about it too you know. If people didnt talk about how much it sucked or make fun of elon it would be bankrupt by the end of the week. It does sometimes feel like he knows his goonery is the only thing that keeps it on life support, like when thousands of dickholes used to fall over themselves to 'own' Donald Trump after he tweeted something stupid.

I always enjoyed following events unfold through Twitter. Mostly news events, such as election nights. A lot of it is gossip that turns out to not be accurate, but you still get an insight into what is going on within the halls of power from journalists that follow these things. Plus, you get great things from people like Cold War Steve and other satirists.
Personally, I've dropped my twitter account and not too sorry about it, but I will happily jump on the next iteration if it ever comes along (well, probably not if it ends up being Threads). I wish the journalists would hurry up and move, as it is surely inevitably going to happen at some point and the other services won't really kick off until the media figures still on Twitter make it happen.

I think 95% of my posts are Twitter; I'm basically an unfunded and far less intelligent bot.
But without it I'd miss things like this:

News stories will always break first on twitter when the story is just "oooh, someone's a bit upset at something a guy said".

I very, very rarely post anything on Twitter because it feels utterly futile unless you treat it as a second job.

i once took a citroen 2CV over the alps and other than needing to do a couple of sections in reverse to make it "rear" wheel drive and provide lower gearing than 1st it got better traction and made more rapid progress than elmo's cybertruck in two inches of slush

Apparently one of the reasons it happened is the software got confused and turned off differential locking.
